ORGANIZATIONS 15 Student Council The Student Council is an organization for service to the students, faculty, and administration. As an outlet for student expression the Student Council seeks to solve, avoid, and prevent problems which arise throughout the school year. The Dade County High Student Council of 1971-72 tried to involve students and faculty in many different phases of school life. Com- munity and school projects gave the council many goals to strive to achieve. Success was only in knowing that they had achieved some- thing to be prouder of. 16 Left to Right, Top to Bottom Greg Tatum Claudia Moore Sandra Christopher Allen Byers Teresa Gold Vicky Christopher Phillip Street Steve Baugh Roxie Scott Karen Ryan Mitchell Smith Bryan Page Penny Clark Audrey Jeffery Philip Cagle Ronnie Hawkins Judy Woodyard June Forester Becky Wheeler Ted Rumley O. Through this club students can develop a personal relationship with their teachers. The mem- bers render special assistance to the teachers in their duties. Students learn to view the teacher as a human being, and to understand them as such. The Future Teachers of America presented before the student body their interpretation of the play Infanta. Although many will remember the game, the victory, and the queen, few will remember all of the excit- ing and crazy things that happened during Homecoming week. Clash Day, poster contests, parades, and a bonfire will always linger in the minds of those who participated. As the 1971 queen, Pam West, was crowned by Jackie Mason, most of the Home- coming activities began to end. The final close came as the 35-0 victory was cele- brated, and students spoke last goodnights after the dance. 43 Athletes Receive Honors FOOTBALL Mickey McBryar, Captain Jerry Holcomb, Most Improved Ricky Ross, Sportsmanship Kenny Keel, Best Lineman Eddie Mullins, Best Back BASKETBALL Jackie Mason, Captain and Miss Basketball Debbie Shrader, Best Foul Shooter Sharon Rogers, Best Defense Pat Page, Best Rebounder Mickey McBryar, Mr. Basketball Greg Jones, Best Offense, O. A strong team, a season of victories, and great skill - these are the factors that made our team a superb one. These boys worked immensely hard, and it was all shown when they performed their talents on the court. They had the taste of many victories and few losses which led the Dade County Wildcats once again to STATE. There they met Montgomery County whose team provided a long, hardfought battle. The score ended: Dade 53 - Montgomery County 60. Captain O.P. Cooper presents the 1972 6-B Region trophy to Mr. Porter. 46 OF HARD WORK, EXCITEMENT Dedication, patience, intelligence, sympathy, and, above all, the stamina to stay in there and win - these are the makings of a great coach, two of which we have here at Dade. Head Coach Lee D. Ross has been at Dade for five years, and in that time he's broken, rebuilt, and molded a team that will long be remembered in sports history of Dade, He’s a highly respected man that has gained this respect through honest tactics, fair play, and an understanding displayed toward students during his years here. Dade couldn't ask for much more. A newcomer to our coaching staff is Butch Stanphill, Assistant Basketball Coach. Although he's been at Dade only one year, he's changed the set atmosphere into an atomosphere of variety and light. He has earned a much needed trust from students, a virtue necessary in gaining their respect. Wonder what he's talking about? 47 . . . Health And Physical Education A sound body is one of the things necessary to compete in the daily routine of life. To work hard and to play hard is easy enough for those with sound bodies, but for those who do not, it is a different story. The Health and Physical Education Depart- ment strives to help the students develop sound bodies so that they might survive in today's world, as well as have the capacity to perform their everyday duties more efficiently. MR. LEE D. ROSS MR. ROY NICHOLS MR. MORRELL HOLCOMB MRS. J. L. FRICKS MR. ROYCE CALLA HAM MR. ANDY BOWEN MR. LARRY HULVEY The librarian, driver education teacher, band director, and counselor all work to help coordinate the student's life to that of die school. Yearbook Staff With a yearbook clinic and a first place trophy for a best planned 1972 yearbook behind them, the yearbook staff began the 1971-72 term. The trophy was among other historical firsts concerning the yearbook at Dade High. The new yearbook was to have five fall color pages; a new type of advertising campaign was begun; and for the first time yearbooks were merchandized, that is, fally paid for when ordered. With these new ideas the 1972 yearbook staff was well on its way to the publication of a financially secure, on time, book of excellence. TOP - Yearbook staff members win first place trophy at Macon work- shop. Pictured are, from left - Mrs. J. L. Fricks, advisor, Donna Ross, O. P. Cooper, Kathy Forester, and Claudia Moore. ABOVE LEFT - Judy Kay works on ad. ABOVE RIGHT - Sharon and Allen stamp pictures. RIGHT - Linda, Doreen, and Cindy enjoy the Christmas party. OPPOSITE PAGE: TOP LEFT - Lynda and Candy at work on yearbook merchandizing day. TOP RIGHT - Doreen looks on as Marie signs ad letters. BOTTOM LEFT - Claudia and Kathy discuss the plans they have made for photographer’s schedule. BOTTOM RIGHT - A typical yearbook mer- chandizing scene. The yearbook staff wishes to thank the staff of Belmont Studios for the unlimited time and tireless effort they have put forth in assisting in die publi- cation of the 1972 Wildcat. Without this outstanding help that they have given to the yearbook staff, the 1972 Wildcat could not have been published. Again, a very special thanks to Belmont Studios.
