1969 WILDCAT Dade County High School Trenton, Georgia Foreword While preparing this edition of the yearbook, the purpose we kept in mind was capturing school life at Dade High as it rally was. If a student, per- using his yearbook, can place himself in a scene or can enjoy an accomplishment, the yearbook has succeeded. Also, if the actions in the school by students, teachers, and administrators are correctly pictured, then the yearbook has succeeded. With these things in mind, we present to you the 1969 WILDCAT. It seems that young people the world over are against the Establishment and are clamoring for all sorts of changes. Change is essential in our time, but discarding proved values just for the sake of change will prove disastrious. Tomorrow is your world and you will be the Establishment;” therefore, consider carefully the kind of tomorrow that you really want. ll MR. C. L. PRATHER Visiting Teacher Principal Larries Uut Keguiations The 1969 WILDCAT is a monument to the ideas, the abilities, and the activities of the students of Dade County rligh School. You have performed a great task, and I ivant to commend you for your achievements. This yearbook will remind you in years to come of :he pleasant memories of your high school days. At athletic events and pep rallies enthusiasm is boosted by its spirited music and well presented half-time shows. The band also entertains with a concert in the spring and provides the music for graduation. In 1968 and 1969 the band took part in numerous affairs, in- cluding the Chattanooga Tri-State Band Festival which gave our band an excellent rating and presented it with a trophy. In pre- vious years, the band under the direction of Mr. Richard Jones participated in events such as Jacksonville State University Band Day, Georgia Tech Band Day, and the Tri-State Band Rating ■IHHH Contest in Smyrna, Georgia. The Band and school greatly appreciated the service rendered to us by band director, Mr. Richard Jones. Mr. Jones served as director for six and a half years and helped make our band something to be proud of. When he left to study drama at the University of Tennessee, his position was temporarily filled by student director Eddie Norwood. Near the end of the year, Mr. Charles Helton, who was the first band director at Dade High, came to finish the year. We greatly appreciate Mr. Helton's interest in our band. Dade High's girls' basketball team really had much to be proud of as the season came to a close. With the help of two fine coaches, Charles Johnston and Lee Ross, the Wildkittens posted a 16-8 record and placed the first varsity trophy for basketball in the showcase. Many long hours of practice were put in by the girls as was only too evident when the Wildkittens took to the court. The Forwards were drilled over and over to perfect their various plays, foul-shoot- ing ability, rebound positioning, plus their very ef- fective press for which they were soon known through out the sub-region., Often the intercepted passes and balls stolen proved a main factor in the winning of a game. The Wildkitten Guards, with no returning starters, were coached into a well-balanced trio of girls who played together well as they positioned, rebounded, and brought the ball down the court with agility and skill. On the average, no team scored over 35 points against them. Congratulations, coaches and team! It was considered at that time very modern and adequate and consisted of nine classrooms, an office, a library, and an audi- torium. This building housed all elementary pupils from the Trenton area and all high school pupils from the entire county. The first graduation exer- cise was held in the new auditorium in 1927. After additions to this building, use of army barracks, a log cabin, and a converted skating rink, the high school and upper elementary grades moved into a new building in the spring of 1956. In an effort to accommodate the present over- crowded conditions of both buildings, another build- ing is now under construction on campus. This air- conditioned building will consist of five classrooms, a library, an office, a clinic, a faculty lounge and a cafeteria. It is hoped that this new facility will be ready for the 1969-70 school term. Seventh Grade MR. W. R. FOUTCH MRS. MARY ROSS Sixth Grade Fifth Grade MRS. THELMA BELL MRS. ATHA SELLS MR. RAY EXUM MRS.
