Geo £ a rY te °a We, the annual staff, not wanting our high school days to be for- gotten, leave to you this edition of the WILDCAT. We have caught glimpses here and there so that in years to come the activities of this year at Dade High School will be preserved for you. In later years, while turning these pages, if you should remember the many smiles, sorrows, and dreams of '60, we shall be content, knowing that we have done the thing we were called upon to do. ---THE WILDCAT STAFF BOARD OF EDUCATION MR. CLASS HISTORY On a sunny September morning in 1948, the first grade room of Dade Elementary School was overflowing with bright-eyed six year olds. They had no idea what the future held for them. In May 1960, these bright-eyed youngsters will leave Dade High School, and again they will not know what the future holds for them. We can only hope for as much happi- ness as we have had at Dade. Fourteen of the originals will graduate this year. They are: Martha Barton, Shirley Cureton, Nanette Daniel, Shirley Sullivan, Billie Tinker, Betty Wheeler, Mary Jane Price, Bobby Raulston, Patricia Daniel, Aileen Puckett, Rayford Hammond, Lillian Reynolds, Grover Geddie, and Burrell Hill. Mary Porter joined us in 1951. In 1952, Bobby Sutton joined the class from Rising Fawn. In 1954, Lavern Powell came to us from Rising Fawn. Rex Blevins came from North Dade to join our happy group. Our class grew a great deal in 1955. Russell Blevins, Connie Broom, Anna Walker, Nancy Patterson, Barbara Warren, Gene Hixson, Larry Moore, Nancy McCown, Stoney Townsend, and Joe Lee Tatum came to us from North Dade. Geneva Ross and Laura Autry came from New Salem. 1956 brought an even larger growth. From Rising Fawn came Nancy Steele, Frances Chadwick, Glenda Castleberry, Jo Ann Steele, Deloris Tatum, Eddie West, Larry Kon- rad, and Billy Konrad. Carol Ryan came to us from John A. Patten; Jimmy Gothard, from Boynton, Georgia; Bobby Baker, from Gillen School. In 1957, Betty Guffey joined us from Lakeview; Edna Rousseau, from East Lake; and Margret Middlebrooks, from Davis. In 1959, Phyllis Fossett, coming from Davis, completed our class. During our senior year we took part in many extracurricular activities. Russell Blevins was senior class president and made the all-state class C football team. We had eight members on the football team. They were; Rex Blevins, Russell Blevins, Larry Moore, Gene Hixson, Jimmy Gothard, Rayford Hammond, Bobby Sutton, and Grover Geddie. Jo Ann Steele and Barbara Warren were football cheerleaders and also homecoming queen candid-ics. Jo Ann was elected the queen. Rayford Hammond and Bobby Raulston were on the debate team which placed second in the district. The entire class has worked very hard to make our senior year a success. Such events as the first senior prom were enjoyed by all. As always we came out on top because The best in Dixie is the class of 60. Martha Barton Rayford Hammond CLASS PROPHECY The year is 1970, as I finally start my long-awaited hard-earned trip around the world. I find many of my classmates have journeyed far from home and are quite successful in all parts of the world. In Washington, where 1 now reside, is Edna Rousseau, world-famed sports writer. She has just finished inter- viewing Connie Broom, of the Washington Senators. In New York Phyllis Fossett and Margaret Middlebrooks, are now famed hair stylists. Russell Blevins, man about town, showed me around New York. That night we dined at the Stork Club, where Joe Lee Tatum is head taster. We went to the New Yorker, where Rex Blevins was making his debut as a come- dian. I sailed for Europe the next noon on the Queen Mary. Barbara Warren, social director, is kept busy making sure Captain Burrell Hill stays on his diet and takes exercise. Deloris Tatum, big game hunter, took me on a safari into deep, dark Africa. Nancy Steele, daring matadora, has everyone in Spain fascinated with her great skill of outwitting the toros she fights in her arena. Eddie West, concert pianist, is on tour in Rome. Everyone is marveling over his most outstanding talent. Nancy McCown along with her husband and three children is on a long vacation in Venice. In Paris I attended a very exotic fashion show. Many of the creations were designed by Nanette Daniel and were modeled by two top Paris models, Jo Ann Steele and Lavern Powell. Dr. Robert O. Raulston is doing advanced research in Bonn, Germany. His very charming and efficient assist- ant is Carol Ryan. In England it was delightful talking to Lillian Reynolds, a secretary in Buckingham palace. In Berlin the United States is represented by a new useful branch of the armed forces, Girls for Peace. Mary Porter is commander-in-chief and carrying out her orders are Laura Autry and Glenda Castleberry. In Ireland Betty Guffey is fulfilling her dream of doing nothing. She credits her good fortune to daily kissing the Blarney Stone and collecting shamrocks. 1 was charmed in Scotland by the entertainment of Bobby Baker dressed in his very colorful kilts playing his bagpipes. Civil engineer Gene Hixson is counstructing gigantic windmills in Holland. In the Swiss Alps, Shirley Sullivan is coaching Jimmy Gothard, Stoney Townsend, and Larry Moore in the elementary procedure of skiing. Mary Jane Price, broadway actress, is vacationing in Sweden with her secretary and companion, Geneva Ross. From Sweden I flew to Moscow. The attractive and alert hostess on the flight was Nancy Patterson. In Moscow I dined at a very elite restaurant which is one of many businesses owned by the successful business woman, Shirley Cureton. Grover Geddie is in India on official government business. He is teaching the natives new ideas in farming. Because of mistaken identity I was kidnapped in China. However, thanks to speedy actions of Billy Konrad I was not harmed. Bobby Sutton owns an enormous sheep ranch in Australia. Larry Konrad is foreman. Aileen Puckett is dancing in her own dinner club in South America. In Hawaii speedboat champion Rayford Hammond is taking life easy while surrounded by beautiful native girls. Patsy Daniel, well-known television star, is entertaining the men in the armed services in Alaska. Betty Wheeler, her manager, is traveling with her. Frances Chadwick is resting at her summer home in Canada after breaking the world s record for swimming the English Channel. I enjoyed my trip to the utmost. 1 just completed a book telling every detail of it. It will be published next month by the World Publishing Company owned by Billie Tinker and operated by Anna Walker and Wylene Blevins. Martha Barton CLASS WILL Rex Blevins leaves his ability to not get along with any of his teachers and still remain in class to Ronald Moore. Good luck, Ronnie! Jo Ann Steele leaves her charming smile and kind ways to Jo Ann Troxtel. Betty Guffey leaves the compliments she has received in return for helping the students sitting around her in shorthand class to Gladys Mahan. Bobby Baker leaves his love to annoy Mr. Cheatham by reading library books in English class to Alfred Barnes. Margaret Middlebrooks and Phylis Fossett leave their folding chairs in the shorthand room to Linda Cole and Joyce Patterson. Frances Chadwick, Delores Tatum, and Nancy Steele leave their ability to get in and out of more mischief than any other three people in the world to Bobby Gatlin, Bobby Howell, and Larry Riddle. Jimmy Gothard and Stoney Townsend leave their ability to talk to a different girl every day and still remain on speaking terms with all of them to Ronnie Fuller and Kermit Vaughn. Bill Konrad leaves his ability to flood the laboratory without drowning himself to Roy Barton. Edna Rousseau and Billie Tinker will their titles as great newspaper women to Sorita Wheeler and Brenda Camp. Burrell Hill leaves his ability to attend school and hold a respectable job with the Shop Rite to Denny Goodwin. Aileen Puckett, Mary Porter, Nancy Patterson, and Patsy Daniel will the few mountain boys that they haven't already taken to Sherry Buchanan and Peggy Millican. Martha Barton, Nanette Daniel, Geneva Ross, and Betty Wheeler will the many grammar school children they have taught to Faye Hughes and Doris Forester. Bobby Sutton and Eddie West leave their masks of shyness to Glenn Gilley and Ernest Harris provided they use them only when doing some kind of mischief. Anna Walker leaves her ability to keep a gracious smile on her face, even when mad, to Dian Wheeler. Grover Geddie and Larry Moore leave their secret loves and admirers to Kermit Wooten and Tommy Lawson. Lavern Powell and Lillian Reynolds will their floor burns received from skating to Alojean Word and Barbara Kyzer. Carol Ryan leaves her flirty ways to Rita Lee Jenkins even though she doesn't need them. Laura Autry leaves her square dancing ability to Edna and Lamar Abbott. Nancy McCown leaves the Mrs. before her name to Mary Lee Hill and Rosemary Woodfin. Barbara Warren and Shirley Sullivan leave their kindness to dumb animals, especially dogs, to Carolyn Ford and Bessie Clark. Russell Blevins and Gene Hixson leave their passing grades in senior English, in spite of their cat naps in class, to Doug Wheeler and Richard McKaig. Bobby Raulston, Rayford Hammond, and Joe Lee Tatum leave their togetherness, especially when taking trips, to Ronald Gibson and Arthur Gass. Shirley Cureton leaves her ability to go with one boy for twelve years and still put up with him to Linda Jo Pace. Connie Broom wills his spinner hub caps, provided they haven't been stolen, to Arnold McConville. Larry Konrad bequeaths to Robert Kenimer his legs, provided he keeps them in good running condition. Mary Jane Price leaves her ambitions of becoming an old maid school teacher to Linda Kay Sims.
