There are four events in a gymnastics meet: floor exercises, vaulting, bal- ance beam and the uneven parallel bars. ln judging the events, a judge looks for grace, fluidity, ability and amplitude in performance. To be- come a powerful gymnast requires hours of practice and exercise. The team practiced almost every morn- ing from 7:00 A.M. to 8:00 A.M. At the time of this writing, the season was incomplete, but the team was having a very successful year, win- ning nine meets and losing five. 87

The girls' gymnastics team enjoyed a tremendously rewarding season this school year. Their successes may be attributed to skill, endurance, and many mornings of practice. As a re- sult of help from Booster Club and Student. Council, the uneven bars were added to the team's equip- ment. This was also the first year that Van Horn has had a J.V. team. The team sold posters; sponges, and had car washes to pay for medals, sup- plies, officials and the use of the gym at all home meets.
