THE PIONEER is Van Horn's school newspaper. This year's pa- per staff of 23 issued papers every third week, a total of twelve times this year. The paper had interest- ing articles about student activi- ties, music, sports, and commu- nity projects. All articles were rig- idly scrutinized for mistakes in spelling, punctuation, and sen- tence structure by the editor-in- chief before they could be put in t the paper. The sponsor of Van Horn's newspaper was D.R. Smith. Circulation: Brian Holton, Pam Bishop, Steve Morley. Business: Mike Murphy, Cheryl Baker, David Nichols. 143

Student Council had many projects this year. Voter registration was made available to students who were old enough to vote. Stu- dents who were 18, or 17 with parental permis- sion, could give blood on Blood Donor Day. New wall murals brightened much of the school. They were painted by artistically- inclined students. Homecoming, which was the largest project of Stuco, with the dance, pa- rade, and assembly was a great success. The Hole-in-the-Wall is the money maker for im- proving parts of the school through Project Improve. Activities for Student Council were the picnic at Lake Jacomo, several movies on Friday nights, and the mixer. Row 1: Alicia Hall, Terri Foster, Cindy Ross, Dianne Phipps Row 2: Kim Hogan, Larry Watts, Joanne Gile, Kellie Fitzpatrick, Donny Ershman, Sandy Heriford.
