For parents and teachers may it be a memory pathway of duties well done. So, let's get on with the book presented to you through the medieval theme. 2 -'-'--W V- -- -'-- f----- -vi-..n-qrsyrq.---E-1 -N --.-Y - V+- -1-. f rw- af-1-f W, -- V- E71------.. MR. PAUL A. NAU ,As Seniors of the class of 1958, we are truly grateful for the opportu- nity of dedicating this, our yearbook, to Mr. Paul Nau. It hasn't been easy to keep this honor a secret from him, as he has worked so diligently with us to prepare our yearbook. We sincerely believe that he deserves this honor for the unlimited amount of time and effort he has spent as advisor for the Freshman class, German club sponsor, and Activities worker. Mr. Nau, we thank you for your patience and understanding and for the many hours of work you have given so devotedly to our yearbook. 3 Faculty and Amlnlinislrallinu Cruiluula-s 1fml4:rgr4ulual1's Clubs Music Spurls Clussus Advvrlising 5 IU 61 151 105 119 11110 145 Boano of eoucatlon Standing, Left to Right: Mr. Alan D. Sophrin, Mr. George Cooper. Seated: Mr. W. Howard Nicol, Mr. William Reid, Miss Eleanor Shabino. The Cuyahoga Falls Board of Education deserves a great deal of credit for its dedicated efforts to solve the problems of our entire school system. The five members, who make up the Board, are elected for a term of two years. They meet twice a month to discuss and solve the difficulties of Finances, Personnel, Building and Grounds, and Health and Safety. These issues form the basic committees which investigate and report to the Board any problems which may arise. The Board then acts as a committee of the whole in rendering its discussions to these particular problems. We, the members of the 1958 graduating class, are indeed grateful to these unselfish citizens who work so earnestly to improve our school system. 6 GUI2 SUD RIDIIGDOEHIC FRED BODE Superintendent F. H. Bode received his B.A. from Heidel- burg College and his M.A. from Columbia University. Mr. Bode is the highest official of the entire Cuyahoga Falls School system, being in charge of all administrative personnel and teachers. He not only has the responsi- bility for all administration, for interviewing and hiring teachers, but for the educa- tion of all children of school age in Cuyahoga Falls. Even if a child is privately tutored, or goes to a private school, or goes to a school for the handicapped, he has the responsibility of seeing that these children are receiving a good education. With all his other duties Mr. Bode has been instrumental in bringing about many innovations. Among these are a new grading system, junior high schools, and enriched classes. A Mr. Bode is something of a jack-of-all-trades, an excellent farmer, a good car- penter, and a fair plumber. 7 MR. JOHN STEINHAUER Assistant Superintendent Steinhauer re- ceived his B.S. from Miami University and his M.A. from Ohio State. Mr. Steinhauer is the one in charge of all properties of the school from books to paper clips. He has charge of all non-teaching em- ployees and is the man in charge of such things as heat and light. You might remember seeing him in one of your classrooms with a light meter or checking the temperature. He also is responsible for all buildings and addi- tions to be builtg with this is included the advertising for bids and the specifications for the building. --X DR. RUTH CLAYTON Dr. Ruth B. Clayton, Co-ordinator of Pupil Personnel, is supervisor of all special services in the Cuyahoga Falls School System, includ- ing an overall testing program, school psy- chologists, nurses and health programs, speech therapists, attendance, visiting teacher, guid- ance in both the junior high and the high school, all special education including slow, gifted, and physically handicapped and a research program. MR. WARD SECRIST Mr. Secrist, Co-ordinator of Curriculum, received his B.S. from Kent State University and his M.E. from Pittsburgh University. As co-ordinator of curriculum, he is the man responsible for the courses of study in the schoolsg this means not only new text- books but what parts should be skipped and what additional parts taken. He must also see that there is vertical and horizontal uniform- ity. That is, see that the work becomes pro- gressively harder and all pupils in the same grade at different schools learn the same things. 8 AOITIIHISUQAIIVE ASSISIADIS Eileen Reagle 15 wi ' Helen Reilz Kathryn Anderson, Miriam Aston Hazel Beckett, Emma Leiner, Ida Mae Blankenship oun pnmclpal M. Mr. DeWitt enjoys traveling and amateur photography and has a collection of some 1500 colored slides taken while on his trips. Outside of school he is a member of the Kiwanis club and an active member of the First Methodist Church, where he teaches Sunday School. Through our four years here at Falls High Mr. DeWitt has been very highly respected for the help and guidance he has given us, both with our studies and social affairs. The profit obtained from the sales serves to supplement the amount of money received from subscriptions. advertising, and sales tax stamp redemption. This money is used to pay the printing cost of the newspaper. The cart, built to allow easier handling of the candy. was made at the school through the courtesy of the woodworking department. Members of the staff share the responsibility of man- aging the cart, two persons working together one afternoon per week selling candy and one person taking the responsibility of ordering the candy. The cart is wheeled into the hall for fifteen to twenty minutes after school each afternoon and all candy sales are made at that time. 49 upp I2 ten pemcent K-. lv, gill' E .' In a sense, of course, all those who have met the requirements for gradua- tion are honored-but this is an attempt to single out and honor those students who have attained the highest standards of achieve- ment in recognized areas of school leadership. Unfortunately, we are unable to make mention of all students who received awards. These pictures, however, portray some of the high-lights of the June, 1957 Recognition Night ceremony. Although this was not as good as the phenomenal 18-1 mark the year before, the Tigers played some of the state's better teams, making a good showing against all of them. They won their first four games before being derailed by an under-rated St. Mary's quintet in the Lions Invitational Tourney in December. On December 27, the Falls racked up their biggest margin of victory by lashing Steubenville 90-52. This avenged the loss which ruined Falls' string of 18 straight wins the year before. The Falls lost two heartbreakers to St. Vincent 4-7-49, and 40-4-1. Their last two games of the season were losses handed them by Findlay and Mansfield. ln both cases Falls was in the game almost all the way, only fading in the final minutes. The Falls was led by captain and four- year man Harry Kalbaugh. The starting lineup also included Barry Anderson, Bob Randall, Bill Knights, and Denny Mclnteer. Others seeing action frequently were Jerry Johnson, George Miller, J ack Edmund, and Don Cole. Everyone on the staff agrees that it has been a pleasant experience to work with these businessmen and in our association with them, we have found their interest and willing facilitation very gratifying. It is very reassuring not only to us on the adver- tising staff but to everyone in the school to realize that we have the support of so many fine business establishments in our town. We clearly recognize that through advertising in our yearbook, the businessmen are showing concern for the youth of our community as a whole and we are proud to live in such a community. As the businessmen of this town have given us invaluable aid in completing this yearbook, we sincerely hope that this section of their advertising will greatly benefit them.
