DEAN OF GIRLS Mrs. Elizabeth Ellis has served as Dean of Girls and Assistant Principal of Cuyahoga Falls High School since 194-0. Her duties include var- ious phases of guidance for girls and the care of the girls' attendance records. She is chairman of the Freshman Advisory Committee and advisor for the Cuyahoga Falls Student Council. In addition she teaches two classes of psychology. Her quiet efficiency and calm demeanor will long be remem- bered by those of us who have felt her influence in our lives. DEAN OF BOYS Mr. Howard D. Saurer received his BS. Degree from the College of Wooster and did graduate work at Akron University. He serves as a sponsor for the tenth grade, as advisor for the Hi-Y, and as Faculty advisor for the Cuyahogan business staff. Outside of his busy school schedule, he en- joys gardening and playing golf, and is a member of the Falls Rotary Club. The students of Falls High will remember him not only as a teacher and dean, but also as a friendly advisor to all who seek his counsel.

Mr. Gordon M. DeWitt, our principal, received his B.S. Degree from Kent State University and his M.A. Degree at Ohio State University. The teachers at Cuyahoga Falls High School in No- vember, l954, presented him with a lifenrrem- bership to the National Education Association and earlier, in 1949, the boys at Falls High pre- sented him with a life membership to the Hi-Y. This year he will complete his twenty-third year as principal at our school. Mr. DeWitt enjoys traveling and amateur photography and has a collection of some 1500 colored slides taken while on his trips. Outside of school he is a member of the Kiwanis club and an active member of the First Methodist Church, where he teaches Sunday School. Through our four years here at Falls High Mr. DeWitt has been very highly respected for the help and guidance he has given us, both with our studies and social affairs. ln future years when our thoughts drift back to the alma mater, Mr. DeWitt will always be first among our memories. FROM OUR PRINCIPAL. . . During this school year all of us have been Writing a chapter in our book of life. Included in that chapter is to be found a re- cord of many experiences. Some have been most pleasantg some have been less pleasant. Many problems have faced us. Some we have solved easily, some with difficultyg and some remain unsolved. Through it all we have grown and matured in our Way of life. The great creator to whom we owe our very existence so designed and planned our way of life that we must meet challenges. To the extent that we meet them and solve them unselfishly, to that extent we are fulfilling our duties as human beings. This issue of the Cuyahogan should serve as sort of an index, helping us to recall the activities centering around Cuyahoga Falls High School which brought to us pleasant and worthwhile experiences as we were meet- ing the challenges of the year. fgmarfw M. 49441455-

IN MEMORIAM . . . I cannot say and I will not say That he is dead-I-Ie is just awayl With a cheery smile and a wave of hand He has wandered into an unknown land, And left us dreaming how very fair It needs must be, since he is there. EARL R WELKER HE IS NOT DEAD James Whitcomb Riley And you-O you, who the wildest yearn For an old time step, and the glad return, Think of him faring on, as dear In the love of There as the love of Here, Think of him still the same, I say, He is not dead-he is just away. 10
