DEDICATION MISS MIRIAM MILLER This book is fondly dedicated to Miss Miriam Miller, history teacher and senior adviser since 1921. Supporting her seniors in any dispute, her ready wit and magnetic personality made her a legend to underclassmen. Room 215 for 26 years housed the favorite class for many a senior as Miss Miller led us all through the channels of American history. This ardent Republican attended Lake Erie Woman's College for three years and graduated from Wooster College in 1921. Students feel a loss since 'pert Miss Miller retired from teaching in the spring of 1947 because of illness. For all these reasons and many more, we dedicate this 1948 Cuyahogan to our favorite teacher, Miss Miriam Miller, forever amusing, sincere, and helpful. . ln- - -ui

i-lv? - - www- Y - 1 oVIYU IT The old saying that opportunity knocks but once might have been true in Grandfather's time, but not in this present age. Opportunities present them- selves at all times, and we as future citizens should utilize them. Bacon once said, The wise man will make more opportunities than he finds. This cer- tainly should apply to us as students. Opportunities come to us through education as well as through business or life. If there were a law forbidding further education, we would soon realize that thereby we had lost many opportunities. You may say to yourself, Oh, I'll wait till I get to college to use my opportunities, but that is too late. You have already set a standard that determines your character, and people use that in judging you as a worker or a student. Our own high school affords us many of the subjects that will help us in choosing atcareer. Whether it be a Scientific, mathematical, commercial, social, musical, teaching, or an active Career, we will profit by the various subjects and clubs in the school. The sun rises at the same time for everyone, giving every individual an equal opportunity to do something worthwhile. No one can find your oppor- tunities for you. You must find them yourself and put them to good use. If everyone would use all the opportunities he or she has, this world would be a better and safer place in which to live. DMU l
