FINAL M A S H — The final episode of M‘A S H aired in February of 1983. Original cast is shown on the left and closing cast on the right. GOING APE — A 3,000- pound, eight-story high, vinyl King Kong clung to the Empire State Building in New York to commemorate the movie made 50 years ago. TOY CRAZE — Cabbage Patch Kids, complete with birth certificates and adoption papers, were hot items with holiday shoppers. CUP GOES DOWN UNDER — The yacht “Australia II” I became the first challenger I to take the America's Cup in 132 years, defeating the defender, “Liberty.” ubSH THERE SHE IS — In September a Syracuse University coed, Vanessa Williams, was crowned Miss America for 1984. FLASHY MOVIE — Nineteen-year-old Jennifer Beals starred in the hit movie “Flashdance” and firmly established the torn sweat shirt as one of the year’s fashion fads. Morgan, Christenot, Coach Kowalski 1983 TRACK MEET RESULTS Dual with Conrad - 1st Cut eank Invitational - 1st Triangular at Columbia Falls - 1st Columbia Falls Booster Inv. - 3rd Simms Invitational - 2nd Dual with Chester - 1st Choteau Acantha - 1st District Meet at Cut Bank - 2nd Divisional Meet at Great Falls - 3rd State at Great Falls - 18th The 400 meter relay team placed 4th at state with a time of 45.0 sec. and was run by Kevin Bur- ton, Rusty Losing, Eric Morgan, and Bobby Miller. The most valuable award was given to Kelly Sherwin for scor- ing 128 points during the sea- son. The most improved award went to Eric Morgan. Cut Bank Girls' track team had a successful year. The Wolf girls were 8-2 in meets, including the district and divisional championships. They were ninth in the state meet. At state, the 4 x 100 meter relay team of Bonnie Henderson, Barb Reagan, Donna Sherrard, and Susan Baldwin were state champs with a time of 51.3 sec. Barb Reagan placed fourth in the 300 m hurdles in a school record time of 47.6 sec.; Nancy Wollan was fourth in the shot at 35'91 ; Kim Ballensky tied for fourth in the high jump at 5', which equalled the school record. School records set or tied this year were Ballensky and Peg Smith at 5' in the high jump; Nancy Wollan at 36'l 2 in the shot; Brandy Baker at 61.4 in the 400 m; Barb Reagan at 47.6 in the 300 m hurdles; Kerri Bjoin at 12:20.14 in the 3200 m. Myhre Our photographer Annual m COMPUTER CLUB Computer Club, this year, participated in two contests: The U of M Computer Faire The American Computer Science League Contest Members attending the U of M Faire were Dan Springs, Mike Millward. Cindy Askelson, Butch Anton, Darrell Sharp, Kar- in Sharp, Chris Lighthizer, Sharon Ebelt, Eric Anderson, and Libby Barnes. Darin Sharp, Butch Anton, and Darrell Sharp received second place for their prepared program — Report Card Writer. Butch Anton, Cindy Askelson, and Darin Sharp received second place in the timed programming section. Those participating in the ACSL Contest were Dan Springs, Cindy Askelson, Butch Anton, Milette Salois, and Libby Barnes. The team was invited to the national contest in Long Island, New York. They received this honor by earning the top spot in their division. Individually, Butch Anton tied with three other contestants in the nation for top honors. With outstanding scores exhibited by all team members, ev- eryone is eligible to compete in the All-Star Individual Con- test. SPEECH - DRAMA TEAM The speech and drama team began their competitive season in November, 1983. Butch Anton and Dan Springs competed in impromptu. Jeannie Grimm and Kathy Lindberg were in original oratory. The drama team consisted of Brian Novak and Paul Miller in humorous duo, Kim Ebelt and Micaela Green in serious duo. Also, Molly Hayes and Eva Ringberg were able to compete in one tournament in humorous duo and pantomime, respectively. Overall the speech and drama team had a very successful first year. The number of partici- pants was small but the quality was great. Individually, out- standing performances were given by Brian Novak and Paul Miller. VICA had an active and productive year, culminating at the Montana State Skill Olympics held on the campus of Northern Montana College in April. Twenty-two members made the trip which resulted in four of the local members gaining eligibility to compete in the National Skill Olympics in Lousville, Ky. Qualifying for Nationals were Thane Johnson in Prepared Speech, Robbie Hansen in Job Interview, Todd Harmon in Cabinetmaking, and Brad Strausburg in Commercial Photography. In addition to the fine showing in the competitive skill contests, the Cut Bank chapter also succeeded in having three of the six State Officers for Montana VICA elected from their own ranks.
