Montana Boys' State ts sponsored by the American Legion for the purpose of teaching high school juniors boys the responsibilities, duties, and rights of the Montana citizen in city, county, and state governments. The activities of the week included talks by some of our state and federal representatives. Lieutenant Governor Ted Schwinden talked about the duties of the Governor and Lieutenant-Governor and the Chief Justice explained how bills are determined to be constitutional or nonconstitutional. The counselors supplied seminars in law enforcement and the judicial and legislative branches of government A lot happens during the week, but finally one of the most important facets is the friends that one makes during this one week in June. 54 •    'III • • • • 1 I ' I rXXXXif hi) XX‘AA ' ' ' ' (yyyy o XXXX ii• ' VX) vxy x « y y y 0JKJCS szazs MShtamx gi Restate © 0UN A t m K rj The purpose of Girls' Stale is fo educate Junior girls from Montana in the duties, privileges, and rights of citizenship Girls' State is practical training in the mechanics of government It enables girls to grasp the meaning of government problems facing the United States today There are important speakers that made the girls aware of current issues. We enjoyed hearing Ted Schwinden and lack Ramirez speak to us on important issues in Montana, such as. the Coal Severance Tax, legal age, and power problems We felt Girls' State gave us the unique opportunity to view government on both a city and a state level We learned how to campaign for office and to run a successful election We also experienced the difficulty of trying to have a bill passed. We met many girls from all over the state and the friendships formed will endure for many years We feel it was a very worthwhile program, and we were fortunate to be chosen to represent Cut Bank AprHSho oters April 11th arim r 9? 00 12:00 pliCC: Ggm Hitt 0 : Suptr}ot M M Party and Student Body Brad McCauley, V. Seventeen girls, wearing appropriate uniforms in the school colors, represent the varsity, junior varsity, freshmen teams, in both boys' and girl' sports. The cheerleaders' main job is to promote school spirit! They are responsible for pep assemblies to try to involve the students in pep jugs; and then, to decorate the team buses, as well as lockers, to show support for the team. We lead the crowd in cheers, chants, and the school song. At a game when the score is close, the action is rowdy, and the crowd is tense, the girls must know how to control the situation. In the spring the cheerleaders are given their letter awards. The cheerleaders shoulder much responsibility and enliven school spirit. erne £KS w t •sr ipf 11 i Varsity Cheerleaders. ootball CheecJej and J Tan readers: L.
