Benton with a total of 67 points. Ft. Benton came in second with 63. Divisional records were set by Max Cebulla in the pole vault by clearing 12'6 and Maynard Nygaard in the long jump with a leap of 22'2”. Nygaard established a new school record during the season in the high jump clearing 6’5 Vi which broke the old record held jointly by Fritz Wolk and Joe Ludwig at 6'4”. Olmstead Led by divisional champions Deb Sherrard, long jump, Laurie Lighthizer, shot, and Dorinda Crail, high jump, Cut Bank’s girls placed second in the Northern Division Championship. Lighthizer's 39’4 in the shot set a new divisional record. The Wolves qualified 11 girls for the state meet and placed 15th with Lighthizer's 4th place in the shot and Sherard's 5th place in the 220. Girls who placed at divisional and qualified for the state meet were Melinda Anderson, JoEllen Lotvedt, Cheri Burton. Mary Sue Tabbaricci, Laurie Lighthizer, Deb Sherrard, Venus Moyer. Marj Hayes, Tina Jensen, Jill Armbruster, and Dorinda Crail. New school records were established by the following athletes: Laurie Lighthizer -shot-40'2 javelin-118 1”, Dorinda Crail and Jill Armbruster -high jump -5'0”, Tina Jensen-2 mile-13:19.2 and Deb Sher-rard-long jump-17’ Vi ; 220-25.84. Deb Sherrard participated in the state Meet of Champions and recorded a third in the 220 (26.7) and a fifth in the long jump (15.7). Phillips ft 1978-79 Tennis Season The tennis team was very active during the season. They travelled to such places as Havre, Lewiston, Conrad, Big Fork, and Plson. The team did well this season. Against Poison in a dual meet, John Armbruster and Ed Vasquez were undefeated. Fourteen out of sixteen matches were won; three out of four doubles matches against Big Fork. Shelly Rewerts and Carla Torno showed individual accomplishments in the Havre tournament, both winning three out of four matches. M Shortman x-c Cut Bank boys and girls X-C teams were not ranked in the top prior to the state meet, but the Wolf boys led by 5 Seniors ran an outstanding race in Great Falls to place 3rd for the second year in a row Cut Bank's girls team had an excellent effort to place 4th at state.
