Text from Pages 1 - 144 of the 1977 volume:

The first three grades were cluttered with Dick and Jane books, adventure films, the milk line, and recess. We also learned the 3R'sin our spare time. Everyone remembersthe different parties. At the Christmas party we would wait for Santa to bring us a sack of candy. The Valentine's Day party was special because we could deliver our valentines to the students in the upper elementary. AtHal-loween time we wore our costumes to school. Communists, eh? I suppose they started In the usual way. Sophomores and the upper classmen can chose any elective in the fields of literature or grammer Humanities Dr. Page Bailey was our last Humanities speaker in 1976. He came from Wichita Public Schools but this year is a professor of music and humanities at the University of Eastern Michigan. shining light. Program The Humanities Program was started this year for the first time in Cut Bank High School. This is a program open to ail levels from sophomores to upper classmen. It is a study of man and his life, culture, and developments throughout history, literature, music, art, and science. The atmosphere of the class Is more informal than our structured, purely academic disciplines. The class activities may range from a serious study of a classic, such as A Tale of Two Cities, to skillful maneuvering of the players in a simulation game. This class is taught by Mr. Ray Maier and Mrs. Phyllis Myhre with lectures from Mr. Jeff Vranna on music and Mr. Carl Johnson on art. We hope to have from the community guest lectures telling of their many travels throughout the world. We feel this is a worthwhile program and one which will grow in the future. 41 Science Mathematics Commercial 45 Mr. Jones, Resource R Teacher School Personnel Mrs. Simons Mr. Kowalski, Boys' P.E. It taught them many aspects about government and how it is run. Boys' State was held in Dillon and Girls' State In Helena. The delegates were divided into counties and cities with the whole acting as a state. Officials were elected and the students ran the government. It wasn't all work and no play, however; there were many recreational activities. Many new friends were made and some good times were shared. It was a valuable learning experience and all the delegates were glad they had gone. C. Morgan, L. The 1976-1977 Wrestling season started with an inexperienced team. There were only two returning seniors so that this was a year of building and refining techniques. The duel meet season had an unproductive record of five wins and ten losses. Towards the end of the season, Cut Bank did have four wins, but lost two of their last three by a total of four points. The high points of the season were Cut Bank's one point victory over Shelby and narrowly missing being Divisional Champions by 2V6 points behind Browning. Cut Bank came from third place with thirty-five points behind Malta and Browning to overtake Malta before losing to Browning 114V6 to 112. In State Joe Olmstead was doing a fantastic job of wrestling and placed 4th. Two wrestlers, Dave DenBoer and Kevin Bundy, showed much improvement by defeating Northern Divisional Champions. In all, the wrestling team had a good season. They are sponsored by the Cut Bank High School Athletic Department, though they buy their uniforms through fundraising projects such as taco sales and Homecoming mums. In the summer the cheerleaders learn new chants and skills from the cheerleading clinics held at the various Montana universities. . The girls work on the trampoline and on tumbling rountines. They perform at game halftimes. Upon completion of certain requirements, the two year tumblers receive a medalion, the three year tumblers receive a pin and girls completing four years are awarded a trophy. Gymnastics Cut Bank High School opened the door to gymnastics this year, with the promise of interested girls, new equipment, hard work, sore muscles, and tough competition. Women's gymnastics involves the four areas of floor excercise, balance beam uneven parallel bars and vaulting. The girls compete in one or more areas, eventually working towards all-around competition. Although Cut Bank has had previous gymnastic classes, the 1976-77 gymnastic group and 7th period class has the potential of being an excellent building block to a fine interscholastic program. 1st Row: N. In fourth grade we first received letter grades of A, B, C, D, or F. They were quite a change from the checks used on the report cards before. This is the year that we put on the Christmas Program. The Partridge in a Pear Tree was a success. The girls finally let the boys play kick ball with them. Fifth grade can be remembered by playing four-square, pompom pull-a-way and jump rope at recess. These activities seemed to be more important than school itself. The Science Fair was a bi.g event for the sixth graders. Everyone had to make a science project. The final big event of grade school was the sixth grade graduation party which was held in Mrs. Hall's back yard. We played games afterward in the South Side playground and then ran from older classmen so that we wouldn't be initiated. .S is1, From king of the grade school to king of the high school, we have found that we have only just begun. We shall never see the day when we shall not need to be taught.
