Text from Pages 1 - 136 of the 1970 volume: “
There is a time in every man's education when he arrives at the conviction that envy is ignorance; that imitation is suicide; that he must take himself for better, for worse, as his portion. Nature is a discipline of the understanding in intellectual truths. Our dealing with sensible objects is a constant exercise in the necessary lessons of difference, of likeness, of order, of being and seeming, of progressive arrangement; of ascent from particular to general; of combination to one end of manifold forces. Proportioned to the importance of the organ to be formed, is the extreme care with which its tuition is provided-a care pretermitted in no single case. Ralph Waldo Emerson Mr. Haburchak is a man who has spent his time patiently opening our eyes to the world around us. In appreciation for his efforts, we are proud to dedicate our annual to him. 2 Activities............. Seniors ............... Senior Memories Senior Class . . . Organizations.......... He has faculties silently inviting him thither to endless exertion. He is like a ship in a river; he runs against obstructions on every side but one, on that side all obstruction is taken away and he sweeps serenely over a deepening channel into an infinite sea. This talent and this call depend on his organization, or the mode in which the general soul incarnates itself in him. Homecoming is the highlight of football season each year and the '69 event with a theme of Montana History was no exception. Sophomore Float - Third Place HOMECOMING Senior Class of 1970 Wins Again! Class floats with their candidates, the band, and the spirited pep club snake dance combined to create a colorful atmosphere for the homecoming activities. Junior Float-Second Place The aggressive Wolves bring down an unwilling Cowboy. One more opponent bites the dust. The twirlers generate spirit at half-time. Homecoming Royalty Katie McNamer and Don Berezay Senior Class Candidates: Vicki Hanson and Fritz Wolk CANDIDATES Sophomore class candidates: Diane Davenport and Ken Mellinger Freshman class candidates: Katie McNamer and Don Berezay Dalton chats with Harvey. 12 Dalton seeks professional advice from Dr. Goldrick. Mr. Kerr proudly surveys preparations for the final performance. Diane listens patiently to Ellen's problems. Bob is perplexed about Dalton's behavior. For the grand finale of our high school dramatic career, the senior class of 1970 performed HARVEY. Under the able guidance of Mr. Kerr, the cast achieved a delicate balance between the intrinsic comic nature of the play and the deeper aspects questioning the value of normalcy, in the conventional sense. Our deepest thanks go to the cast for a job well done. 13 Queen Nome Good and King Don Berezay A couple takes a break for serious discussion. People relax in front of the grandiose mural. Sr. class candidates Greg Pritchard and Jeanne Yunck Junior class candidates Norrie Good and Rod Perry The climax of the evening's festivities was the grand march. The social event of the 1969-1970 school year was the formal ball sponsored by the senior class. In order to form a prelude to the holiday season, the time for the ball was December 23. The seniors spent the week before the ball decorating the South Side gym in ice blue streamers, mint green streamers, a holiday mistletoe wreath, and a beautiful mural to carry out the theme of Mistletoe Frolic. Music for the ball was furnished by the Travel Agency. Sophomore class candidates Judy Sammons and Don Berezay One of the freshmen class candidates was Mary Murphy. The freshman king candidate was Fritz Wolk. AWARDS and HONORS Jim Curry-National Merit Scholarship Finalist Jenny Ronsch-Voice ol Democracy winner. Nature then becomes to him the scholar the measure of his attainments. So much of nature as he is ignorant of, so much of his own mind does he not yet possess. And, in fine, the ancient precept, Know thyself, and the modem precept, Study nature, become at last one maxim. SENIOR MEMORIES Junior Prom Queen Ann and King Allen reign over the junior prom, Carousel. Katie and Stan relax for a moment. The ball begins A subdued melody stimulates both conversation and dancing. 20 break. In our junior year we, the class of 1970, presented Moss Hart's comedy entitled YOU CAN'T TAKE IT WITH YOU. The play dealt lightly with the humorous aspects of everyday life. Mrs. Sherman's able direction brought us to a more fulfilled appreciation of the intricacies of modem theater. 21 BOYS’ STATE Boys' State Row 1. C. Rice, P. Johnson, P. Kimmet, Row 2. S. Bell, D. Larry Kraft if we go beyond our usual course we still carry in our minds the bearing of some neighboring cape; and not till we are completely lost, or turned a-round, -for a man needs only to be turned round once with his eyes shut in this world to be lost, - do we appreciate the vastness and strangeness of nature. Every man has to learn the points of compass again as often as he awakes, whether from sleep or any abstraction. Not till we are lost, in other words not till we have lost the world, do we begin to find ourselves, and realize where we are and the infinite extent of our relations. from WALDEN by Thoreau House of Representatives: Row 1. The annual staff does a variety of jobs. Under the guidance of Mrs. Myhre an annual staff which was, in reality, much smaller than the one pictured, learned the basic aspects of pictoral journalism. While we cannot claim to have produced a really great book, our reward lies in more than the pictures here; it lies in the knowledge we gained through the co-authorship of a book. These people achieve a considerable degree of proficiency in return for their work, and they have secured some amazing results, including a first place for girls' track at last year's divisional meet. 83 The exercise of the Will, or the lesson of power, is taught in every event. From the child's successive possession of his several senses up to the hour when he saith, Thy will be done! he is learning the secret that he can reduce under his will not only particular events but great classes, nay, the whole series of events, and so conform all facts to his character.
