In 1947, the organization started as a cultural exchange for teenagers. At this age, these young adults were better able to form and adhere to opinions. Today, through its program, AFS hopes to develop better understanding and respect between individuals of different nations and mutual awareness of different cultures and ways of life--all of these are educational experiences in themselves. Mats Pleje came to Cut Bank from Sweden as our first AFS student. When he goes back to Sweden, he will have a broader understanding of the United States, her people, and cultures. Through Mats, we in Cut Bank will have a better understanding of Sweden and her people. Mats Pleje (right) AMERICAN FIELD SERVICE: Row 1: M. Pleje, N. Gillaspie, Pres. ; J. Babcock, Sec. ; Row 2: D. Throughout the past years these activities have steadily increased to include a girls' basketball team, volleyball team, gymnastics, tumbling, track, golf, tennis, and the Girls' Athletic Association. Each year Cut Bank hosts track and field events along with numerous G.A.A. play-days for girls from the surrounding schools. This year for the first time Cut Bank has sponsored a gymnastic meet which has given many girls a chance to compete and have fun. With all the girls' activities available and the leadership of this sponsor, our girls' athletic department is constantly growing both in membership and new activities. Secretaries Mrs. Myrtle Davis, Clerk of Board 66 Success. . .in order to maintain and achieve success there are certain qualities that are required in order to get along well with fellow students, with your fellow man. These requisites are a pleasant personality, a ready smile and a hardy laugh, a good memory and the ability to speak well and a willingness to serve ungrudgingly. These are not usually natural gifts. Throughout your years here in Cut Bank, your teachers, your parents, your friends tried with all of their patience and time to see that these gifts were acquired by you. It is the hope of each of us that these gifts will be meaningful and important to you all the way through life. Our best wishes go with you. An annual is a written and pictorial history of a school year. All of that school’s great achievements are recorded for those of the future to attempt to improve. Students have an opportunity to look back into the past after many years and to see and relive the accomplishments of their friends. By striving to improve each year on the accomplishments of the past, you can build a greater civilization and culture for your children. This is how traditions of greatness are born.
