DEDICATION Our 1967 WOLF is dedicated to a faculty member who has inspired us to try for higher goals in our education. We dedicate this annual to Mr. LeRoy Torgerson. For you this annual is a very personal book. How personal depends upon how much you participated in the events of your class. As you glance through its pages in future years, may you have many pleasant ' memories of your high school years and of friendships begun and strengthened with time. 2 ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL FOREWORD Through ages of learning, the potential of man has become reality. The student of today is confronted with the realization that very little can not be achieved. These years we spend in preparation are important for our future and for the future of our country. When we assume the responsibilities of adulthood, we shall be prepared to write an important chapter in the history of our nation. Having already left some footprints on the sands of time, we, the editors and staff of the Wolf, 1967, bring you this annual in the hope that the wonderful events of this year will never be erased from your minds. WILLIE DeGROOT . . . Class B's Winningest Coach One of Montana's winningest basketball coaches in the past two decades has been Cut Bank's Willie DeGroot. The former Billings All-State forward--former Grizzly Gold Dust star--former Phi Delta Theta Fraternity All-American has a lifetime winning percentage of . 785. His teams have compiled a record of 403 victories against but 110 losses covering a span of 19 1 2 years. His basketball titles include two state championships, five divisional titles and five conference championships. His cage clubs placed in four other state tournaments and placed in fifteen divisional tourneys. Five times his teams won conference runners-up--a fabulous record. But basketball isn't his only game--although it is his best. He has coached two state baseball champions in American Legion ball and won four divisional meets. His track teams have won three state titles and he copped the conference bunting in football once. Twice he was conference runner-up. DeGroot starred for the Billings Broncs in prep school basketball from 1935 to 1938, being named All-State forward his senior year. He played for the Grizzlies from 1939 to 1942 before entering the United States Marine Corps in '42. He served as a Captain in the Marines from '42 to '46, and again from 1950 to 1952 during the Korean conflict. During his Grizzly years, he and Livingston's star Bill Jones, acquired widespread fame as Montana's Gold Dust Twins --if one wasn't pouring points through the hoop, the other was--or both of them were. This year DeGroot is aiming for his third state basketball championship, and most observers agree that his Cut Bank club, the defending title holders, are favored to come through again — for the winningest class B coach in Montana.
