As he focused it on the United States, his attention was drawn to an island off the coast of California. Here he found Major Robert James Baker in command of a large troop of Marines. As a scientist, our old friend Tom has invented a super- interplanetary radio. As he talks with Major Baker,. he learns that another one of our former buddies is also in the armed forces. It is none other than Russell Lee Koch, Com ander of the U. S. Air Force. Speaking of the Air Force, suddenly a jet plane comes into view. Curious as to whom the pilot is, Tom uses his radio to get contact, and to his surprise, he found it to be our old classmate, Joe Martinez. After conversing with Joe about old times, he spotted Mar- lene Godwin walking into the Home Ec. Department of Texas Tech. Within a short time he learned from her that she was now teach- ing there. Not so very far away, our scientific friend spotted another old pal, Harold Ankenman, who has set himself up in business, and is now a very successful Registered Hereford Rancher. On a ranch near by he found Ada Mae, who is now married to a big cattle rancher. In case he is needed, Robert Feldman, a successful vet, is always around. As the telescope is focused northward, Tom finds that Ray- mond Seybold is still working in a saw mill, this time his own, in Silver Cliff. Finding so many of his old friends still around, the scien- tist decides to take a little trip back to Earth. As soon as he reaches Westcliffe, he stops in at the towns largest beer joint, of which Paul Montgomery is now proprietor. While talking to Paul, the conductor of the train through Westcliffe, Robert De- Gree, comes in for a few minutes during a ten minute stop. He talks Tom into going on a train ride with him. Their first stop lain Denver where they meet another old classmate, Margie Eakins who is running the world's largest baby sitting corporation. From her they learn that Dorothy Collier is to appear at Fitz- simmons Hospital with a professional dancing troup. As they talked to her, they run into one of the head nurses there, Mar- garet Comer. As they continued their journey, they stopped offai:Golden. Here they discovered that the old Coors Brewery had changed own- ership, and was now in the hands of Wesley Colvin. Now our old friend returns to the moon, and again takes up his work at the telescope. This time he focused it on Chicago, where he found Frank 'Lucky' Langston, the owner of a used car lot. Lucky said he was doing real great, selling some of those old '52 Mode1s'. He suggested to Tom that he look in on Chet Koch and his team of professional basketball players in West Virginia. He thanked him for the suggestion, and moved on. After watching the boys practice for awhile and talkingto their coach, 1041397 Chet, he went on to Washington D. C. There he met the World famous wife of the newly elected president, Adlai Stevenson Jr., who before her recent marriage, was our old pal, Bertha Mae Kattnig. While visiting her he heard that Helen Millard was now employed as Bertha's private nurse. As he was preparing to leave the scene of the White House, he met Albert Kidder, a special agent for the F. B. I., busy in- vestigating a case on communist spies. He explained his work to Tom, who then moved on to New York City, where he heard that Sally Littrell was now appearing on television. She had taken over where Lucille Ball had quit, and was enjoying her job im- mensely. Also in New York, he saw Odetta Knuth, now the head fashion designer at Saks Fifth Avenue. She had finally made it after years of hard work. As Tom turns from his telescope, his chief assistant, Wayne Vahldick, brings him bad news about their latest experiment on an easier meansof'transportation between Earth and the moon. He went to work with memor1esof'his old days at C. C. H. S. running through his mind. He knew that his friends were successful and without them, the world would be incomplete. .Sznior Cfadd Jwdfory The history of the Senior Class began in the school year of l9h9-1950 with an enrollment of thirty students. In November we lost one of our classmates, Luz Sanches, but gained another in March, Nancy Bennett. We lost another pupil when Virginia Martinez, left us. One day toward the last day of school we teamed up with the Juniors and enjoyed an afternoon party together. And so ended our Freshmen year. As Sophmores, we started out with twenty-nine students, Frances Oelrich left us after a few weeks, but we were fortunate enough to gain Helen Millard, so our attendance stood the same. Thanks to Mr. Manatos, our sponsor, we presented two very successful assemblies, both original ideas of Mlkesn. r- , V ..,, HSL x .b. 1 . . We wore dutch costumes to match the theme of dec- oration. During sum er vacation, we lost several classmates. Nancy Bennett moved to Denver, Kathryn Ryan moved to Cripple Creek and Ray Ryan being occupied with a good steady job did not return to school. we also lost Edward Bates. The biggest event of our Junior year was our play, 'Just Ducky . The cast was as follows: Hr. We then started to work on the Junior-Senior Prom, super- vised by Mrs. Neef and Mrs. Marley. Our theme was 'Moon Light and Roses . To end our Junior year, we had a picnic at the Oak Creek Picnic Grounds. Afterwards, a few people drove home through Canon City. At the start of our Senior year we had 23 pupils left. Of course we initiated the Freshmen and we might add, they were swell sports. The night after initiation we gave a party in honor of the Freshmen and a few weeks later we had another party to use our left over supply of party food. We plan on a Senior trip the first week in May. Baccalau- reate services will be held May 17th and following week will be taken up by Class Night and other activities. Graduation exercises will be held on the night of May 22nd. And though you have heard us gripe and groan for four years, we all know that the four years we spent here have been very happy years indeed. h . gy ix -X A v f .JL X 1 ' V mis Q. ygzn- ' 4 . dl.. Initiation was trying. More trying for the Seniors than us. We cinched that deal. They left that year. Instead of retreating the honorable Seniors of 1950 gave us a party, with food, too. As Frosh our assemblies were great--onlysang mslippin' Around' all during a half - hour session. Donald Tesitor dropped from the class membership when he entered the Abbey School in Canon City. Mrs. Frye sheoherded us through our Fresh year. Our Sophmore Officers of the class were Kathryn Kidder President, Carol Higgins, Vice President, Lavada Claymon Secretary, Suzie Luthl, Treasurer, and Fern Stephens, Reporter, during this 2nd year of high school we gained one and lost two, members. Jerry West became a member of the good ol' class while Donald Sutcliffe, and Virgina Frye dropped out. We gave the usal amount of assemblies on of which was quite successful, This was the minstrel we presented. After our first perform- ance at school we were asked to re enact it for the P. T. A. e Halloween Carnival. Mr. Manatos, our sponsor, was pleasingly, proud of our debut into the dramatics world. One of our social events was a picnic held at Lake Deweese. We also had a few KQUITE A FEWJ appointments in detention as well as receiving a verbal reprimands. Solid citizens, we,all together it was a great year. This year found us promoted to jrs. and we are missing some of our old timers, Jerry West, Fern Stephens, and Ronnie Bats, Russell Berry are not with us anymore. However Jams Ingersoll and Jack Hobby joined our class roll. Our Officers for the year are: Suzie Luthi, Pres. Bernadette Stewat, Vice Pres, Wllldra Walker, Sec.- and Pat Eakins Treasuer, Carol Higgins reporter: Miss Byer, sponsor and Mr. Amend is ce-sponson We all worked our fingers to the bone on the 'Jr. Work Daym and for several weeks we turned confectioner experts, made and sold candy. Our play 'We shook the family tree' has been presented and as we look back we almost wid it wasn't over with all the, troubles, work and fun that accompanied putting it on. KUndoubt edly Hollywood would like all seen our playl. Our main project now is Prom which we are all working and if all our plans work out far is a secret, but donlt be of us if some talent scouthad the Fine Jr. - Sr. Banquet and on. It is to be held in April it will be unusual. The theme so blue we've another year with you. 1042397 bU'li0I Typical of the Juniors, a hilarious time was had in pre- paring and presenting the play nWe Shook The Family Tree.n Miss Davison, our director, and Robert Guild, our assistant director, patiently molded twelve njubilant Juniors' into the Dolson family and their friends. Hildegarde Dolson, a teenage girl, fBernadette Stewart! was tired of being a nwallflower' and entered a debate in school, 'Should We Return to Proh1bition?' hoping to be noticed and thus invited to the prom. Without meaning to she gave the im- pression her father was an alcoholic. In the roll of Mr. Dol- son, Happy was not as his nickname implies, but a stern, short tempered man, who frequently lost it. Mrs. Dolson Kwilldra Walker! felt sorry for Hildegarde and arranged a date for her with Freddie Shermer C Jerr Piquettel who was a nice enough boy, but lhorror of horrorslg wore knickers due to his mother, Mrs. Shermer CSuzie Luthil. She cou1dn't for wouldn'tl real- ize that she was old enough to have a son in nlong pants.' Bob and Jimmy, Hildegarde's brothers and Ellie Mae, Bob's heart throb and her chum Jill, made life miserable for Hilde- garde by teasing her endlessl about her nbig date.u Sally, the younger sister lPat Eaklnsg stood by Hildegarde staunchly through all this. Donnie Hartbauer and Forrest Johnson took the part of Bob and Jimmie, while Lavada Claymon and Kathryn Kidder were Ellie Mae Nelson and Jill Smith. Hildegarde always seemed to do the wrong things. It seemed harmless enough when caring for little Paige Mason CCarol Hig- gins! one afternoon she gave her a pack of envelopes to play mailman with. They were Mr. and Mrs. Dolson's early love let- ters though, and Paige distributed them all over town. Mr. Shermer CMel Manningl Mr. Dolson's employer was very disturbed about the nalcoholic and love letter rumorsn that were circulating around town. So to proveiizwas just a little misunderstanding, Mr. Dolson invited he and his wife over to nmeet the family.n' What a mistake! Jim ie's electric wormer was turned on in the yard and worms were crawling everywhere. Jimmie and Bob had gone fishing and caught a four pound bass which they deposited in the bathtub. While the Shermers were sitting quietly in the living room Hildegarde came nscreaming inn Qwith beauty mud all over her facej about the bass in the bathtub. Then to top it all off, unknown to the Shermers, Freddie was a visitor at the Dolson home. He had Wsecretly borrowedn the trousers from Bob's suit to wear to the prom. He came bursting in the living room joyously waving the pants. Bob in his shorts rushed in after him and tackled Mr. Shermer thinking it was Freddie. To top it all off, the Shermer house was broken into and Freddie's watch stolen. The blame? On Hildegardel Who else? Freddie confessed it was he who took the watch to exchange for a 'long pants suit.' And Freddie and Hildegarde were the handsomest fend happiestj couple at the dance. 1042397 S10 omore 0555 F2 3,2520 SSE? H sem a Q Q Q df-4 gd-colin 2 W. The Bobcats had eight lettermen back from last year: Wes Colvin, Chet Koch, Joe Martinez, Bob Baker, Bob DeGree, Russ Koch, Raymond Seybold, and Paul Montgomery. At the end of the season we had twelve. The new letter men are Wayne Vahldick, Tom Paxton, Jerry Piquette, and Donald Hartbauer. The B team also had a very good season with seven wins and three losses. The UB' team shows great prospects of bring- ing a championship to the Bobcats in the future, although, we have only two returning lettermen, Donald Hartbauer and Jerry Piquette. , We will have a new gymnasium next year so we hope the team will initiate it in the right way. we hope that Coach Amend will stay and help coach a championship team.
