Whats In a Name. Once upon a time a great DANE , famous as an ARCHER , lived with his wife in the northern woods. Having defeated all competitors in his native province, he found courage to ASK his wife to pack their few posses- sions and sojourn to unconquered fields. Loyally she answered, AYE , AYE . Not a CLOUD appeared in the sky on the initial day of their trip, and as they regretfully bade farewell to their neighbors, the WO0DSONS , and to their fa- vorite hauntsg the song of many a warbling BIRD was registered among the forest hymns. Echoing notes sounded like strains from Lucia . CCould they have been from UT-S0-N0-MIYA? J As the old couple emerged into the open, they glimpsed a river which reminded them of the KLAR HUDSON . Inasmuch as a CARR -even an ASHEL-FORD?-was beyond their means, this adventuresome pair took turns riding the SWARTZ donkey, who annoyed them, when at inopportune times be stopped to BRAY . Once during the early stages of the journey, the itin- erants were startled by the sound of an Indian DRUM in the distance and by signals of SMOKE-OFF a high hill. Admitting the possibility' of Indians taking the HER-AUF their heads, both repeated passages from LUKE . For- tunately, they passed beyond this danger zone and through towns where HEDGES were green as REEDS which grew near the old USALTMARSHY' Late one afternoon, attempting to follow the directions of WEST EAS'IlWOLD , the twain became confused and traveled several miles in the wrong direction. By the time they realized their error, the wife was so weary she was limping along with the aid of her PEG and a CAINE 3 so gladly consented to camp for the night at the foot of a BROWN NOEL a few yards distant. In the semi-dark- ness the husband was still able to POLK around gathering boughs and leaves for a resting place, since they did not pack a COTT-ER a pillow. Despite fatigue they slept intermittently, for the BALL of a calf and the HOWELL of a WOLFE , disturbed their peace, which they hoped they might 'TWD-LATER . Thus endeth an episode lacking all of Poe's prescribed essentials.
