Cushing, Iowa The School Board Our schoolboard has made many im- provementsduring the past year. These improvements have been greatly ap- preciated and have improved the ap- pearance of our school. The school- board members are Harold Demarest, Arnold Groepper, L. D. Johnson, Walter Hoppe, l-larry Stange, Charles Cody, Ross Bauman, and P. H. Wells. Bus Drivers The six bus drivers who faithfully de- liver us to and from school each day through all kinds of weather are Lloyd Galland, Verdene Hefner, Albert Lill, Russel Preuhs, Alfred Groth, and John Lahann. Alternates are Maxine Hefner and Lorraine Preuhs. Cooks All year our cooks, Vi Hendrichsen, Florence Baxter, and Vernie Sindt,have prepared tasty meals making our Hot Lunch Program a huge success. They have cheerfully served us our lunches the past year and have helpfully washed the towels for the basketball teams. kifiw. Many of us have taken part in sports. Claudette Hettwer and Janice Shever are the girls out for basketball. The boys out for basketball and baseball are Gene Ehlert,Jim Stanton, Dick Wells,Gay1en Demarest,and Elmer Earnest. Gene Ehlert, Bill Hayes, Jim Stanton, Dean Hanson, Elmer Earnest, Gaylen Demarest, and Delmer Anderson are out for track. Beverly Anfinson, Elaine Groepper, and Claudette I-lettwer are cheerleaders. Shari Goodburn is an alternate cheerleader. Gene Ehlert and Beverlyn Nielsen are the 1954-55 Homecoming King and Queen. Senior attendants for Home- coming are Shari Goodburn and Dick Wells. Some of the Senior Class activitiesthis year were Freshman Initiation, Homecoming, Vocation Day, Skip Day, Junior -Senior Banquet, Senior Class Play, and Senior Farewell Party. , Class officers for this year are president-Elaine Groepper, vice-president-Dean Hanson, and secretary-treas- urer -Shari Goodburn. Mrs. Henneberry is our class sponsor. On October 29, 1954, we presented the play Rest Assured with Mr. and Mrs. Henneberry directing. lt was a big success. The boys out for baseball are Ronnie Stanton, David Hummel, and Freddie Dornbrack. The boys out for basketball are Ronnie Stanton and David Hummel. The girls out for basketball are Carol Hargens, Wanda Reyman, and Janeth Sindt as guards and Gail Brosamle as forward. Members of the junior class in music are Freddie Dornbrack, Gail Perkins, Larry Johnson, Robert Heilman, Bevereley Albers,Wanda Reyman,GailBrosam1e, and Janeth Sindt. Janeth Sindt is also a member of the sextette. We made the crowns and pillows of the Seniors' chosen colors for Homecoming. Our attendants were Janeth Sindt and Larry Johnson. Two new pupils entered our class and they were Dixie McCaw and Roger Hintz. All of the sophomore boys with the exception of Roger Hintz, take part in baseball. All of the boys take part inbasketball. The girls all take part in basketball and two of the girls Dixie McCaw and Judy Groepper are cheer- leaders. Two of the boys David Luscombe and Billy Ehlers are out for track. The boys who are in music this year are: Duane Schlichting, Billy Ehlers, Harold Stange, and Gary Goodburn. All of the sophomore girls participate in music. Our class sponsor for the year is Mr. l-Ienneberry. The class officers are president -Kevin Schreurs, vice -presi- dent-Dixie Whyte, secretary -treasurer-David Luscombe. The sophomore class decorated the thrones for homecoming and our class attendants were Kevin Schreurs and Dixie McCaw. James Krueger and Danny Hayes joined our class this year. , First we elected our class officers, president-Sally Henderson, vice-president-Lyman Bullock, secretary- treasurer-Dick Grell. , Initiation came nextg we all had to dress as some story-book character. Loretta Ehlers and Lyman Bullock were king and queen. All of the freshmen girls are out for basketball. Seven freshmen boys are out for basketball and baseball. They are Lyman Bullock, Danny Hayes, Dick Grell, Lynn Meier, Dick Iuelfs, Wayne Nielsen, and Cordell Schmidt. Two freshman boys are out for baseball only. They are Garland Jepsen and John Johnson. Nancy Whyte and Lyman Bullock were the attendants from our class for Homecoming. Mrs. Wells is our class sponsor. We all hope to become sophomores next year. Bev will be hard to replace next year. T 1 2 34 . GAIL BROSAMLE Scored lltl points for the season. Gail is a good selshot. Gail was hampered by injuries d u r i ng much of the season. Girls Basketball The Eaglettes won six games while dropping 12, but showed constant improve- ment over the season. Claudette Hettwer was the only veteran forward returning this year, so the Eaglettes lacked experience in the front court. The guard court made up of JanethSindt, Carol Hargens, Dixie McCaw, Wanda Reyman, and Janice Shever held the opponents to a 44.1 game average for the season. All of the starters except Claudette Hettwer will return next year. The Eagl- ettes should be much improved in as much as they have a year's experience behind them. Judy Grfoepper led the scoring this year followed by Claudette Hettwer and Gail Brosamle. Loretta Ehlers and Dixie Whyte were capable replacements for the starting forwards. ELMER EARNEST Scored 189 points for the year. A good ball handler and driver. A unanimous selection for the Conference Tournament All-Star team. FARMERS CO-OP DR. L. H. WAGNER Holstein. Iowa Holstein, Iowa GAYLEN DEMAREST Possessed the best spirit on the team whether playing or on the bench. Good defensive player and passer. DAVID HUMMEL Bucky was a capable re- placement for any one of the first five. He is a good shot and rebounder. Boys Basketball The Eagles compiledal3 won and 5 lost record for the past basketball season. The boys were runner-up in the Little Sioux Conference race, the l,ittle Sioux Tourney, and the Sectional Tourney. The starting lineup consisted of .lim Stanton and Elmer Earnest at the for- wards, Ron Stanton at center, Gene Ehlert, and Jim Anfinson or Gaylen De- rnarest at the guard spots. Early season losses to Pierson and Grand Meadow were revenged in the final game of the season, and in the first round of the Sectional Tourney. C'ville took Z games from Cushing. The boys defeated Washta three times, Pierson, Ot0,Smithland twice, Anthon, Moville, Arthur, Schleswig, Grand Meadow and Kiron. The Eagles outscored their opponents 936 to 744 for the season. Returning next year will be Ron Stanton, Jim Anfinson, and reserves, David Hummel, Bill Ehlers, Kevin Schreurs, David Luscombe, Lyman Bullock, and Danny Hayes. These boys will give the Eagles a good nucleus around which to build. All members of the department went to Sioux City, February 28, to partici- pate inthe Woodbury County Vocal Festival directed by Dr. Robert Larson of Morningside College. The massed boy's chorus sang: We Sail the Ocean Blue by Cooksong My Lord, What a Mornin ' arranged by Gillian, Your Land and My Land by Romberg.
