A native of Coral Gables, Florida, Cap- tain Fitzgerald graduated from the Uni- versity of Florida and was commissioned as Ensign, U.S. Navy on December 21, 1962. He served at sea in both the Atlantic and Pacific Fleets in USS SARSFIELD QDD-8373, USS JOHNSTON CDD-8211, USS SPROSTON QDD-5771, USS CAR- PENTER QDD-825J, and USS COOK QFF- 10831. He commanded USS LOCK- WOOD fFF-10645 and later served as Surface Operations Officer and Assistant Operations Officer on the staff of Com- CAPTAIN JAMES R. FITZGERALD COMDESRON THIRTY-ONE mander, SEVENTH Fleet. His tours of duty ashore in addition to the Naval Postgraduate School, where he received a Master Degree in Engineering Acoustics, include service on the staff of Fleet Sonar School, Key West Florida, the staff of the Commandant of Midshipmen, U.S. Naval Academy, Annapolis, Maryland, the National War College, Ft. Leslie J. McNair, Washington, D.C.g Head, ASW Branch QOP 3537, Combat Systems Division in the Office of the Dep- uty Chief of Naval Operations for Surface Warfareg and as Special Assistant for Anti-Submarine Warfare on the staff of the Commander in Chief, U.S. Pacific Fleet. Captain Fitzgerald's awards include the Legion of Merit, two awards of the Meri- torious Service Medal, the Navy Com- mendations Medal, and the Navy Achievement Medal. He is married to the former Dianne Leigh Gibbs, of Coral Gables, Florida. They have three children: James Patrick, Kelly Ann, and Michael Robert. 5

, H ,,,, . ,.,V . . ...EAL ,.., COMMANDER EDWARD C. MCDONOUGH COMMANDING OFFICER, USS CUSHING DD-985 CDR Edward C. McDonough was born in Buffalo, New York and grew up in Cin- cinnati, Ohio. He graduated from Ohio State University and later earned his MBA from Southern Illinois University. Commissioned in 1968 from the NROTC Program at Ohio State, Com- mander McDonough served in the Weapons Department of USS TOPEKA QCLG-85, on the staff of Destroyer Division 82, and as ASW Officer and later Weapons Officer aboard USS ROBERT K. HUNTINGTON QDD-7813. After gradu- ating from the Naval Destroyer School 5 4 Newport, Rhode Island in 1972, he served in the following afloat billetsg Weapons Officer and later as Operations Officer, USS REASONER QFF-106355 First Lieutenant, USS CAYUGA QLST-11865, Operations Officer, USS CLEVELAND QLPD-71, and Executive Officer, USS FIFE QDD-9911. During these tours CDR McDonough deployed with both the SIXTH and SEVENTH Fleets. CDR McDonough has senled ashore as Aide and Flag Lieutenant to the Com- mander ofthe Eleventh Naval District in San Diego, from 1975-1977, and as a tac- tics instructor at the Surface Prospective Commanding Officer Course in Newport, Rhode Island in 1979 through 1981. Prior to assuming command of USS CUSH- ING, CDR McDonough served as a Navy Aide to the Commander of the Marine Corps in Washington D.C. Commander McDonough is married t0 the former Martha Louise Hieatt of Dayton, Ohio. They have two daughterS, Katherine Ann and Margaret Mary. LCDR Vincent Andrews Executive Officer, USS CUSHING fSept. 87 - J A native of Plainview, New York, LCDR Vincent J. Andrews graduated from Flordia Institute of Technology with a B.S. in Physical Oceanography and later earned his M.S. in Manage- ment at the U.S. Postgraduate School in Monterey, California. Commissioned in 1974 through Officer Candidate School in Newport, Rhode Island, LCDR Andrews has served in both the Atlantic and Pacific Fleets with tours as DCA and Navigator aboard USS MOUNT BAKER QAE-345, Operation Officer in USS BUCHANAN QDDG-141, and Operations Officerfor Commander 6 Destroyer Squadron Seven. Prior to his assignments as Executive Officer. in USS CUSH- ING QDD-9855, LCDR Andrews attended the Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island and later served as Pacific Fleet Cruiser-Destroyer Placement Officer at the Military Personnel Command in Washington D.C. LCDR Andrews is married to the former Rosemary Mogensen of San Francisco, California. They have one son, John and re- side in Carmel Mountain Ranch, San Diego, California. .
