They who are ever present and always seem to be in your spaces at the wrong time. Sometimes it may feel as though they are leaning on us, asking for more than we can give. Yet, the task at hand always gets accomplished, and to their satisfaction. There are those who wish at times that this billet had never been created. These men who approved our request chits, who approve our leave chits, who in time of crisis see to it that we get emergency leave. Who go to the mats for us to ensure our pay records are straight and change the messing hours so we always get a hot meal. The men who make certain we get proper medical attention even if it takes a Medivac. The ships administrative sched- ulers, the men who make the ship run smoothly. +148 C Commanding Officer Commander Will C. Rogers lll was born in Waco, Texas and commissioned in December, l965 through Officer Candidate School. His first assignment was onboard USS INDEPENDANCE QCV-625 where he served as Main Propulsion Di- vision Officer and Assistant Combat Information Center Officer. Subsequent assignments included the USS GEORGE K. MACKENZIE CDD-8365 as Main Pro- pulsion Assistant and Combat Information Offi- cer, Commissioning Operations Officer of the USS VREELAND QFF-lO68D, and Commanding Offi- cer of the USS EXPLOIT CMSO-4405. 6 Upon detachment from EXPLOIT, Commander Rogers attended the Armed Forces Staff College in Norfolk, Virginia, followed by duty in the Of- fice ofthe Secretary of Defense and the Systems Analysis Division of the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations. Commander Rogers served as the Commissioning Executive Officer of the USS DAVID R. RAY CDD-970, after which he served as Gas Turbine Type Desk Officer of the COMNAV- SURFPAC staff. A Commander Rogers is a graduate of Baylor University and earned a Masters degree in Eco- nomics and History from Trinity University.
