Curtis was born january 25, 1860. His mother was an Indian princess, and his father was a native of Indiana. As a boy, Charles sold oranges near the railroad station at Topeka. Because of his great horsemanship, he became a jockey in order to work his way through law school, Charles was admitted to the bar in 1881. While serving in the Senate and as Vice President, Charles had little time for his favorite sport, fishing. We, the students of Curtis junior I-Iigh, are proud to have our school named after the Kansan who became Vice President of the United States of America.
