David Hernandez is our Foreign Exchange Student from Grecia, Costa Rica. When he first arrived here he went on a trip through northern Washington with his foster family, the Pages. He went to North Carolina in Oc- tober and November with Mr. Page who works for American Plywood and has to do a lot of traveling. The Pages are taking him on a trip to Victoria before he leaves. On his way home he is taking a cross the country to Washington D.C. where hope to meet President Nixon. We hope he enjoyed his visit here as much as we enjoyed having him. S- . -rv 1 Seniors Remain This year two weeks of bruises and sore muscles resulted in a 12-6 Senior Powderpuff victory over the juniors. This was their second consecutive win. The extreme knowledge, skill, and patience of Coaches Doucette, Handcland, Birnel. Denton, and Weller were absorbed and displayed at the final performance. The Senior cheer- leaders, Dave Simpson, jeff Carlsen, Steve Page, Randy Gollinger, and Dan McCullem, kept the crowd in stitches. The junior coaches were Webb, Eastman, Orr, Coin, and Meads. The Junior class was led in cheers by Doug Pagel, Craig Giske, Marc Orr, Steve Broback, and john Campbell. Monica Simmons scored both touchdowns for the Senior team. One was by driving hard through the juniors with a pass from Amy Thorsen. Wendy Sanbeck gained yardage on the other TD with a long run. Ann Beard scored the juniors' only touchdown with a long run. The hosts for the evening provide melodic amusement, The final product of the Senior Snowman Crew. After a week of various events such as the backbending Car Stuff, Greaser Day, the Kissing Booth, Parents Day, and the Rock Festival, both students and teachers looked forward to the festivities of the Homecoming Night Assem- bly. Due to the skilled organization efforts of the Home- coming Crew, Mike johnson, Steve Page, and Scott Higgins, the assembly proved to be an amusing and effective produc- tion. Many students participated in the competitive events of the evening which included such items as the Barbershop Quartet competition, the Pyramids, the Licorice Chew, the Root Beer Chug-A-Lug, the Tomato Pass, and the Snowman contest. The Seniors proved their supreme skills and abili- ties by coming in first in the total class competition. Homecoming contests continued through the evening of the football game. Chariots designed by each homeroom raced down the center of the field in the Chariot Race at half-time. The winner, being the chariot of Mr. Harrisonls homeroom, was subject to the professional christening by the TV personality, Dick Balch. He eloquently smashed the well- built chariot with his gilded sledge hammer, then disap- peared amid the excited cheers, grins, and smiles of the 1973 Homecoming audience. iw, S . This years team was no exception as the Vikings won the tough Seamount League title for the third consecutive year. More important the Vikings were rated state cham- pions for the second time in the last three seasons. Under the tutorship of great coaches the Curtis contingent ram- paged through their schedule undeafeated running their win streak to 28 straight games Ccurrently the longest in the statei. The level of proficiency at which this Curtis team played can be revealed through some amazing statistics. As a team the Vikings set a total of 20 school records for a game. Among these records were: Most points f63J, Most yards rushing 14030, Most total plays C807 and Most total yards C5961 For the entire year the Vikings set some 55 school records. Some of these included: Most points at 347 Calso a league record MIKE FABEBT, Senior CLAY ANGLE, Senior Halfback Quarterback All-Seamount All-Seamount Inspirational Award Co-Captain 3265, Most touchdowns C50D, Most total yards C3670D, Most pass interceptions 1221, Most shutouts in a row 433, but, most important most victories in a season 1105. Led by linebackers Rob Dyer, Bob Nicodemus, jamie Marsh, and All-Seamount Brad Barrett the hard-hitting Vikings shutout Bethel, Mt. Si, and Tahoma in the final three games. Barrett and Dyer shared the coveted Tackle Award given at the end of each year to the player leading the team in tackle points. Four Vikings finished the entire season averaging in double figures: Pat Swesey 12.5, Clay Angle 11.5, Tom Davidson 10.7, and Mike Levenseller 10.0. On the season seven different players led the Vikings in scoring in a single game CSwesey, Angle, David- son, Levenseller, Peterson, Cranlund, and Shaffer.1 Highlights of this year were many but among them were: Scoring 109 points against Tahoma saw Swesey, Davidson. and Angle scoring 19 points apiece. Defeating Enumclaw and Fife in revenge games after they beat the Vikings in their first meetings. In the second Enumclaw game, Cliff Peterson played his greatest game by scoring 26 points. Pat Swesey, a two-year starter for the Viks, finished his senior year in great fashion, Pat ended the season as sixth lead- ing alltime scorer, while his seasonal total was fifth best. Pat became the number two man in field goals made with 227 while he was third in field goal percentage at 50676. Patis most amazing statistic was becoming the Vikings' alltime leader in rebounds for a season, 272 and in a career, 482. Clay Angle became the leading career freethrow shooter at 7992. Mike Snyder was the team captain and also the high scorer of the team. Mike proved to be the second highest aggregate scorer in the leagueg he would have been first had he not missed a match during the season. He was the only returning letterman this year. All matches were played including ten teams and all were played at Point Defi- ance. Curtis reached a high of eighth place and a low of second throughout the season.
