Rogers' and Hammerstein's The Sound of Music was the eighth annual musical to be presented at Curtis. A large on-stage cast of 75 students, an orchestra of 32 students, and numerous students of the production staff all made up the successful group of actors, musicians, and interested people who worked many hours to make this musical a real success. Mr. Dennis Goin, technical director, this year joined the faculty team of Mr. Don Wolvers, gen- eral directorg Mr. Lee Kloeppel, instrumental director, and Mr. Robert Northrup, vocal director, in guiding this 1970 production, performed for the public on May 7, 8 and 9. Karen Richards as Maria Rainer and Larry Sea- man as Captain Von Trapp headed the cast, along with Sue Fowler as the Mother Abbess, Sue Newschwander as Elsa Schraeder, jerry Wakefield as Max Detweiler, Don Thompson as Rolf, and Sheryl Larsen as Liesl, along with the six other Von Trapp children.
