Clothing Mr. Sanderson Rice . Art Art Mr. Rice and Mr. Lavik have been trying out new ideas this year. Fourth year art students were able to do several individual projects such as pottery, silk screening and painting. The art and crafts classes also helped decorate the school at Christmas with stained-glass Windows in the mall.

This year, a third year of Russian was added to the department as well as a new faculty member Mrs. Pavon became part of the Curtis staff this fall, to teach Spanish along with Mrs. Trelor. Instrumental Music Music This year the music department again proved to the public what a fine musical program we have under the direction of Mr. Robert Northrop and Mr. Lee Kloeppel. Mr. Northrop was head of three choirs with many ensemble groups. During the first semester Mr. Northrop was fortunate to have two student teachers. Mr. Kuehn, from PLU, directed Girls Choir and Miss Moles, who attends UPS, had in her charge, Concert Choir. The ensembles which Mr. Northrop had the pleasure of working with were: Madrigals, folk singers, girls ensemble, swing choir, plus two senior trios and one junior trio. Mr. Kloeppel directs the Symphonic Band and works with a brass group, stage band and brass choir. In addition he taught the new music theory class. In this class of juniors and seniors, about fourteen in number, the students Wrote their own melodies, took music dictation, and studied the history of music.
