Brinkman, M. Lindal. Viking Shield The Viking Shield came under a new advisorship this year, with Mrs. jean Cooper becoming the over- seer of the bi-weekly newspaper at Curtis. An evident effort was made to bring more accurate and well- written news of both school activities and of commu- nity affairs. Current issues were examined through surveys and editorials. Editor Rick Branchflower pitches in with the rest of the staff to make the next Viking Shield dead line.

The Symphonic Band got off to a nervous start eagerly awaiting the arrival of Mr. Kloeppel's baby daughter, Gretchen. Despite this delay the band showed their great playing ability time after time during the year. The band hosted the annual festival and it was quite evident that the Curtis Band was number one. It was a great year for a very talented group of performers. 95
