At the fifth assembly we had the pleasure of listening to sev eral new selections by the orchestra and two beautiful songs A Hun- dred Fathoms Deep, and Asleep in the Deep, by Milton Nelson, after which Harry De Young and W'illiam Minkema spoke a few words concerning the Annual and Peter Yff gave a fine declama- tion john Brown at Harper's Ferryf' which interested all present, and proved that the pupils of Curtis High School can do things worth while. The last assembly, given so far, consisted of an opening selection by the orchestra and a Dramatization of 'Cranfordf by the members of the Dramatic Club. Though difficult to portray the delightful and elusive charm of the book itself, the play was effective in its dignity, quaintness and simplicity. av Q 79 sn . . at ' Q444443' ? ,m1ipbjg5954Ag?fs'a Sbhjgpnqi-bpzr pg .g.-. i yu -' H' :I-It L. , 6 ..---, , Fifty-three

H JE it tial N publishing this Annual, the june Class of 1911 is following the precedent established by the class of 1909 and so well car- ried on by last year's june Class. Although- there are many difficulties in this kind of an undertaking, we nevertheless think the work is one worth doing, perhaps the value to us is enhanced by these difficulties. The hardest work has always been the securing of subscriptions, indeed most of these have come from the com- munity, for whose assistance we are duly appreciative, but we wish every loyal member of Curtis would be willing and glad to help ma- terially in this effort, by subscribing. As the question of having or not having an Annual depends upon the subscription list, it can be readily seen that the work is held in abeyance until the requisite num- ber is received. lNe confess we have been at times discouraged, and we might have given up in despair, had not the enthusiasm and sheer deter- mination of some of the members of the class carried the day. Now we are very glad we kept on, for we have benefited more than by the mere making of the book. NVe have learned to know each other in a way entirely different from that of class acquaintanceshipg we have known the pleasures and troubles of working together, and the dis- appointment and satisfaction resulting from interdependence. 'We thank all our friends, in and out of school, who have made the work possible, and we bespeak for future classes a prompt and cheery co-operation in any such work that they may do. Fifty-five
