THE MARY JUNIORS HE whistles were blowing and the bells were clanging, so they could be heard far around. Everyone who was not going along must leave the ship. The gangplank was just about to be drawn in when Dick, all out of breath, came hurrying up, running right into Genezfieve, who was waiting for him fnot patiently eitherj. I thought surely that they would go on without you and Was terribly frightened. I told the Captain that he should wait for you but he said that he didn't have any orders to do so, and then he walked away. Why, I was so angry. Well, never mind now, answered Dick, soothingly. Come and Jes'se-e if we know any who are to be for not to be Pj our fellow pas- sengers. Look! There's PEIETJS-S011 who is going abroad to take up painting. W'hile walking about on the ship, where all were busy putting their traps out of the way, whom should they meet but about a dozen friends who had been their former schoolmates! These had all con- tinued their education at the university and had planned to take this trip together just for the enjoyment. Q Genevieve and Dick were very happy to. find so many friends and could now talk over their school days. In the distance a Kraft was seen which proved to be a fishing smack. To discern whether it was in distress, a sailor climbed to the upper deck with great Dexter-ity, where a telescope stood ready at any time. Finding that everything was as it should be, they all went down to the dining room as the supper bell had just rung. Genevieve and Dick found that they had their friends all around them and they talked of the good old times. Ruth Wadman said that she lived in Austin where plenty of Hazel nuts could be found. Me for that place! exclaimed William Szafranskl, greatly ex- cited, As I just dote on hazelnutsf' No wonder. just look whose name is included in the name of those nuts, answered Albert YF. At this they all laughed. When Luella was stepping on Deck, her hat blew off and almost fell in the water, but as it had landed on the railing, it was soon rescued. Many made for a candy Booth which was stationed in one corner, half hidden by bouquets of flowers and the pillars were entwined with vines. Violet-s and Marguerite-s could be bought here also. Those who were fond of astronomy spent one hour or so observ- ing the Stella-r regions. Others were telling stories. In an out-of-the- way corner, Harold was reading, but every once in awhile he would Ruth-lessly pull to pieces some marguerites which had been given to him by Patra. Lucille was watching him and was smilingg but he did not pay any attention to her or anyone else. He would read a Page, then he would tear a Elowerg but the pages seemed to be longer and longer, so. he soon grew tired of reading and went to Find Patra. A part of the evening's entertainment was some Moor-ish dancing. After this music floated to the ears of those on deck and many went downstairs where some danced and others sat around and watched. While dancing Hiram teased Wilma about wearing a dress that was worn in King Edward-'s timeg but she retorted that his suit was worn in Frank-lin's time. Willie asked Dominick if he remembered Hopkins' store near their old school. You bet I do, he answered. I remember that one day I had bought my 'King Arthur and His Knights of the Round Table' there, and then as soon as I got out I dropped it in the mudf' Walter, happening to pass by, asked them if they remembered Palmer Park er-e the swimming tank and the gym were thereg but Dick said that his memory did not extend that far back, although he did remember when Thomas used to play for their dances. The playing had stopped and Arthur passing by said that he wished they all would have a peaceful night and that all would wake up to find a beautiful sunny morn, for the following day was Fourth of july. ' They all gave three cheers and then retired. F arty-two
