c u R R Y R uV- fill P tP - 4 ' • ' THE CURRVER 1961 Volume II Curry College Milton, Massachusetts Editor-in-Chief Robert Meyers Assistant Editor Harvey Bernsley BqBiqpiXloti With the greatest of pride, we the students of Curry College, dedicate this, our second major yearbook to Dr. Donald Wilson Miller, the President of Curry College. Dr. Miller has dedicated his life to the college. His aspirations for Curry have gradually become a reality. The college has expanded and grown steadily under his able guidance. In each of the past twenty years Curry has grown and grown. Dr. Miller is constantly looking for ward to greater and greater progress for his college. When he expresses a wish, a hope, or an idea for the growth of a greater Curry, lo and behold, in less time than one would expect there appears a new building, a new laboratory, or a new field. Dr. Miller does not stay content, the mo t is always forward for more and more progress. For Curry ' s progress among institutions of higher learning Dr. Miller is responsible. Curry alumni will always fondly remember Dr. Miller ' s personal interest in every individual student. Ue are proud to dedicate this yearbook to the man to whom we owe so much. The group meets Thursday afternoons to discuss current events, French movies, books, and customs. Re- freshments are served at each meeting, and a full program of activities is planned including lectures and tours. The group is under the helpful direction of Dr. Levin; Linda Cohen is president; Judy Greenberg secretary. A FORMAL DECLARATION We, the editors of the 1961 Curryer, are bound to a formal declaration. Vi e are dedicated to excel- lence in bringing this yearbook to all the students of Curry College. The standards we have placed upon our work emulate those set by the editors who have preceded us. Our goal was to create the best possible journal of memories. Our hope was to provide a nostalgic reference to former college days. Our success depended upon our dedicated staff and all those subscribers who demonstrated their faith in our abilities. If we have realized our goal, our hope, our success, we have progressed far beyond what seemed an impossible task; for the months flew, and the work dragged, and amidst a jumble of notes, photographs, and layout plans, a guiding principle was instilled in us by a member of the staff. He quoted from Poor Richard ' s ' Almanac: Let us up and be doing, and doing to the purpose; so, by diligence shall we do more with less perplexity. This quotation haunted us like a guardian angel, soon the work gathered momentum, and behold, here is the result, the Curryer for 1961. FOOTBALL The highlight of the football season was beating Massachusetts Maritime Academy 36—6. This was the Colonels first football victory in their second season of playing the game. The Colonels were exceptionally well balanced under the coaching of Dr. Gould and Dr. Crowell, and the team demon- strated fine plays with strong driving power and spirit. The student body conducted a rally before the Harvard game. Though the team was not successful the Colonels held the well drilled Harvard fresh- men team to a 21-0 score. The injury of co-captain Bob illiams and the loss of several other key per- sonnel kept the squad ' s peek below efficiency. The Colonels got the utmost from a hard pressed bench. Outstanding ball-carriers for the Colonels were Gary Barlow, Bill Quinlan, and Harry Carl. The two big men in the line were Art Johnson and Harry Brousaides. Despite the disappointments of the season, football at Curry College has made a step forward. ,--«■ , . i bfe . T Pi 4 ' ••|;t V-a . The team was off on the right foot as the court Colonels won their first two games and lost a third game in the final minutes of play at Boston Garden. The Colonels came back to win the next two games and it looked as if the Curry College team was lo ho victorious again: but center Wayne Sabo injured his ankle and was unable lo play the next six games. Jeff llel ei ' s rrbounding and Flalpli Bella Crosse ' s deadly jump-shot helped in making up for the loss of the big center, but it was not enough, as the Colonels went into a tailspin and lost their next four games. 1 lie Colonels probably played their best game of the season when they traveled to New Hampshire to heal New F.nglund College on their own court.
