! Ll.. 10425. C4444 ,Maiory In 1942 four new first graders started to school here at Curlew. They were Faye Ells, Ronnie Borders, Gaye Faulkner, and Delbert Lind- sey. We were joined later by Mick Matthews, who moved here from Kent, Wash and started to school here in March of 1945. Our teacher for that first year was Mrs. Southon. Larry Brixner came here our second year and during our third year Bob Oliver started to school with us. Part way through the fourth grade, Gerry McQuinn joined us. BY the time we reached the Sth grade the years were rolling by much faster and it wasn't long before we were eight graders and about to v. YJ graduate. Mr. McKay was spending his first year here as our teacher and Mr. Berlie was on his second year as Superintendent of Curlew School. Graduation night came and at last after 8 long years we were in high school. Bill Monnin joined us as we began our high school career. The big- gest event of our Freshman year was our initiation by the Sophomores. We made our first attempt at making money in our Sophomore year when we put on the traditional Sophomore Hop. We didn't make too much on this dance as it didn't attract a very large crowd. The two most important events of our Junior year was the Junior- Senior Play and the Junior Prom. The title of the play was NHillbilly Weddinn and since there wasn't enough Juniors and Seniors to fill out the cast, some of the Sophomores donated their talents as extras. The Junior Prom was a success, also. The theme song was WDeep Pur- plen and Ruth Euerby's Orchestra from Grand Forks provided the music. We decorated in the colors of purple and gold. Queen of the prom was Charlotte Bardwell and since there were no boys in the class the other five girls acted as princesses. LaDonna Egner joined us for our Senior year, which was the busiest of all our school years. We began by putting on the Senior Play. It was entitled WGood Gracious Grandma'. The next event was our trip to Christian Studios in Spokane for our graduation pictures. While we were in Spokane we had the pleasure of seeing a basketball game be- tween Seattle University and Gonzaga. We put on our Senior Ball March 15th. in the school gym. The theme song was 'When Irish Eyes are Smilingn and the decorations were green and white. The year continued to pass swiftly on, and at last graduation night was here. fx . :Q ' I ,, F.
