Our frontier today is of human beings, not of land. Gn our tenth anniversary, the NUGGET summarizes the many successes our school has achieved duringthe I967-68 school term.l wish to pay tribute to the staff and student body for their many outstanding accom- plishments. They are yours to cherish for your lifetime, with the knowledge that school is not preparation for life, but school is life. These representatives of different campus activities decide on such matters as the granting of con- cessions at home games. con- ferences, purchasing athletic equipment, and some social events. All ASB money bills are first presented to them for con- sideration. The biggest job of the Executive Council is planning the Christ- mas Ball. This is what makes the spirit of our class so great. Each individual contributes to the whole. Many contribute unknowingly-the boy who yells at the game because he is excited, not because he wants to win the Spirit Trophy. Since we have become Seniors, perhaps we are more aware of our unity than ever before. Things that we have just lived through-Crime and Punishment, finals, football games, and dances have now become permanent mem- ories of our Senior year. The mysterious produc- tion, directed by Mrs. Ann Atkinson and assisted by T.M. Morris, was presented November 2nd, 3rd, and 4th to enthusiastic audiences. It was highlighted by the excellent por- trayal of Rhoda Penmark by Debbie Fadich and of her mother by Chris- tine Ricken. The realistic set added credibility to a rather bizarre plot. The long hours spent in rehearsal were rewarded by a request to at- tend the Cabrillo College Drama Festival. The Bad Seed it l i i l T Cast Rhoda Penmark ...,.......... Debbie Fadich Col. Interact The I968 Interact Christmas Hootenanny was the biggest success in Interact's history at Cupertino. The club with benefits from the Hootennany support a Korean orphan, Han Wo Cho, and contribute other profits to Key Club for their annual Food Drive for the needy. The club's second proiect was the Jazz Festival in April. This year's festival featured the return of guitar artist, Bill Mundy, and the proceeds from this project went toward adopting two American Indian orphans. The club's first se- mester president was Jerry Shapiro and the second semester, Mike Morris. And it must be said that this year's club was both hard- working and energetic. Key Club i968 also marked a very successful year for Cuper- tino High School's Key Club, in that their spectacu- lar Homecoming was one of the most successful ever. This year's club again brought the Christmas spirit to CHS with the annual food drive, and once again Santa could be seen romping around the rally court, collecting pennies for the project, which was the largest yet. Key Club's food drive cannot be disputed as being one of the most worthwhile projects that takes place at CHS. CHSS has this year progressed from the messiest club on campus to one of the hardest working and most widely recognized service clubs on campus. It is the only club to serve at the Parent-Faculty club meetings, the Faculty Breakfast, and the CSF banquet. The project this year for CHSS was to buy Christ- mas trees for the needy families and to make taped recordings for the blind. The club is co-ed, so anyone is able to join. ln order to earn a CHSS pin, one has to earn fifty hours of work, which because of the friendly atmosphere of the club is more fun than anything else. k'Oll' I, ue Bell, Monigue Germain, Julie Chaillaux. FOJVMIJ5 .ANN M055 My visit in England began with a two week stay in a boarding school in the northwest. After a term, I moved to Bebington, which is across the Mersey River from Liverpool, where I met my English family. I had a sister, sixteen and a brother, fourteen. We lived in a compact two-story duplex. I found the English to be very much like anyone else in the U.S. The teenagers particularly have a wit about them: their humor is quite satirical. As natives of all countries, the English are proud of their heritage. Although I had a marvelous time while in England, I can only see from my experience, the satis- faction of being a member of not just the American society, or Western Culture, but a member of the World civiIization. ,IIA 166,41 R67 .fl18,NZ I lived in South America with the Capelli family in Vina del Mar, Chile for two and a half months. One of my first and lasting impressions of Chile was its natural beauty. Except for a few dense pockets of population, much of the land is free, wide-open space used for wildlife, grazing, or farming. There is much diversity in the inhabitants of this country. The Chileans themselves are friendly and sincerely inter- ested in matters concerning the U.S. But as in other South American countries, there is an uncertain feeling between what is fact and what is fiction about the American Society. Through programs such as the one I participated in, I hope the view of international relationships will broaden. 15131165 lo'llZT5lJll'0l6Z'!'l l stayed forty miles west of Helsinki, the capitol of Finland, in the beautiful lake country, where a great deal of the activities was consumed in sailing and other water sports. As for my family, I had one sister 2 I, named Marian who was voted the best Finnish model in l967. There were also three brothers in the family: Marcus, I7, Ben, ll, and Roy, 8. A highlight of my experience this summer was a four-day trip to Leningrad. The city and its arts was unbelievable, but even more interesting were the people. Pla After a year of hard work and determination, twenty-six football players brought Cupertino High School its most successful football season. The boys worked together as a team, striving for confidence and pride, for with confidence and pride come a winning team. After the first two games, Cupertino opponents wondered what they had been working for. During the next seven weeks, the I967 Football Team established the longest winning streak in Cupertino's history, beating Los Altos and Fremont for the first time, finishing second behind the number one team in Northern California. The coaching staff feels that these twenty-six football players have contributed greatly to the high school and they are to be congratulated. .1 .... TEV -in-mn-0-' 1 A sig?
