It is first in spirit, first in academic achievement, first in athletics, and first in size. From the beginning it pushed the student body on to new heights in creativity. Included in its many accomplishments are: sponsors ofthe best Junior Prom ever to be held, winners of the inter-class relay two years in a row, victors over the class of '68 in Powder Puff, and the first class to beat the faculty in the Senior Jubilee. The members of this class, who have accomplished so much as a group, will certainly find themselves among the distinguished of the world, ftw v-ewfff Terry Adams Mary Beth Addison Barbara Afflixio Robert Agerbeek F , rw wa- .J 'ill 3 2 5 5 Tefrel Alexander Robert Alexander Shirley Alger Jackie Allen Vern Alvina WP, 'VNLAF Neal Andren Deborah Anderson Gary Anderson Herbert Anderson Jerry Angelo 'Qi -an-H .1 Mary Andrews Thomas Andrews Noddia Ark Michael Arnold Gayle Armstrong R 'B , wwf Nt? The first ingredient of a yearbook is pictures. Out of the dozens taken, the ones that are the most visually interesting tespecially in such areas as the introduce tory section and candidsl are hopefully chosen, Then comes the problem, in group shots, of identification loften harrovving and perhaps unsuccessfuli. Not only must thepictures themselves be interesting, but the vvay they are arranged on the page must also be inventive. This problem of lay-out is what probably takes more time than any other, Finally such details as headlines and copy tvvhich shouldnt be foo insipidl are taken care of. Combining its greatesteever depth and talent with hard work and constant practice, the Varsity basketball team proved tough enough to be Number l in the SCVAL. Not only did they present Cupertino with the League Championship, but sported two All-League players, Mike McGory and Rick Korte. Both players hit in double figures all season and both broke the Cupertino single-game scoring record. While McGory scored 28 points against Mountain View, Korte set the current standard with a 32 point ettort against Wilcox. McGory also had three other 27 point performances and a l9.0 scoring average as he was chosen an AllMid-Peninsula forward. While John Dybvig controlled play at the pivot position, hamps guards John Myers and Dave Saraceno showed op- ponents their great skill in ball control and superior outside shooting ability. Coupled with McGory's agile inside moves and Kortes tine corner shots, the Pioneers sported the highest scoring average in the league, along with a league single-game scoring record ot 95 points against Wilcox. Showing that they were ot championship caliber all the way, the Cupertino Varsity was also second in the league in detense. The line coaching by Mr. Ferdinandsen, along with the great teamwork and inspiration displayed by the Pio- neers, proved well worth the ettort. Q,,w1S-ff-f ' 5 is Q' 174 Sports Class me Sports Class has represented our school for the past five years in girls' competitive athletics. Although the contests are not widely publicized, the girls perfect their skills in sports from hockey to modern dance. Sports Class sponsored many activities not only for the club itself, but also for the student body. Among these were the Modern Dance Show, Sadie Hawk- ins, and Aquacade. The main event is a slumber party held in the spring which includes Freshman initiation, a m'ovie, food, awards, elections, and most important, friendship. This years enthusiastic officers are Stacey Rule, pres., Jan LaPorte, vice-pres., Linda Ozenbaugh, treasurer, Gerry Rodriguez, secretary, Kerry Crosby, historian, Jan Brush, point recorder, Cheryl Stevvart, sports commissioner. The club advisor is Mrs. Dexter, who actually founded the organization. ' . , Z A af 5?
