John Randolph Horner meriean Field Service It's an experience that comes once in a lifetime, ex- Our All-American boy as Jr. Home- coming Princess. claimed Randy. John Randolph Horner, fall president of the Junior class, was chosen as a foreign exchange student to South Africa for one year. He is residing in Capetown with a Dutch family and is attending a small school of 679 stu- dents. l-le will learn the Africaan language, which is a mix- ture of French, Dutch, and African. When asked what he would tell South African students about Americans, he can- didly replied, l'm going to learn, not to teach. Toni Lovaglia and Bob Pirani were A.F.S. summer finalists, Randy talks with Eileen Schmidt, A.F.S. student who lived with a Danish family last summer.

Students who earn a minimum oT ten semester grade points are eligible Tor membership in The California Scholarship Federation, Aus are worth Three points, B s one, and other grades are not counted. Semester members of C.S.F. are eligible To wear The C.S.F. torch pin while They remain in' The club. There are approximately T50 Cupertino High students who wear The C.S.F. Torch. Students who are members for aT least Tour semesters oT Their last Three high school years are eligible .Tor life membership in C.S.F, They are awarded The C.S.F. lamp pin and lite certificate, and Their diplomas and tran- scripts are embossed with The C.S.F, seal. C.S.F. sells concessions aT football games To gain money Tor scholarships. Last year They awarded Two S100 scholarships To life members, February T7 C.S.F. held The annual banquet honoring new life members, installing new officers, and initiating new Freshmen members. C.S.F. is not a service club, it is an honorary organization made of persons who are encouraged To live by The motto, scholarship tor service.
