S , 4 X '.. ri QL S MOE in HUMUR THE BALLAD OF A BALLGAME by Keith Monse It looked mighty gloomy for the Mets that day, The score read two to nothing. The Mets were playing bad ball all the way, But, maybe they were just blujcing. Cause in the bottom of the ninth, The crowd cried out their moans. Inspired, Harrelson whipped a shot, And scored from second, Jones. ' And on the very next pitch, Good ol' Bud Harrelson reckoned, A. And beat Johnny Bench 's fantastic throw, Standing there safe on second. X Grote walked and was picked ofyi And up to the plate stepped Seaver. On three pitches he struck out, And the stadium exploded with fever. Up to the plate stepped Milner, Choking up on his wood, And he singled in the run, Just like any great player would. My father had been reluctant, To take me to this thrilling game. Once you've seen one, he said, They all just seem the same. Oh, somewhere in this sad, sad world, Where people cry and weep. That ballgame lasted eighteen innings, And put my father to sleep.
