I E I. Aslfg., :V '., 'rl ' ' . I Q. ki ldl Dear Graduates: It was with a great deal of pleasure that I learned of the theme for this year's UECHOH. Those of you who have been to my office this year, must have noticed the picture of Tug McGraw, of the New York Mets, hanging on the wall behind my desk. Not only was he the greatest exponent this year of our theme, uYou've Got To Believeu, but more than that, his picture and his career exemplify even more importantly the theme of nDeterminationn. It is indelibly etched in every i ' I S 4 muscle of his face. Belief, without the determination to make it so, remains in the realm of fantasy. p Applying the above to your education, boys and girls, leads to the conclusion that many of you may be learning more and more as you grow older. Believing that by attending school you will receive an education is fantasy. Determined effort is the most necessary ingredient. We, the staff of Cunningham, have tried to do our part in your educational process by providing the experiences and opportunities that will lead to your full end, tion your this intellectual and physical growth. We have obligated ourselves toward this constantly striving to improve your educational experiences. Your obliga- in this process of education is a simple belief in the good intentions of teachers, and a willing determination to participate fully and capably in process of your growth. With this attitude, you, your families, and your community will benefit. I sincerely hope that all of you have spent your years at Cunningham wisely in building a firm foundation for your future. I would be greatly pleased to see all of you using the experiences of your school years to make this world a bet- ter place in which to live. Perhaps, with time and our determination, along with a great deal of belief, this world we live in will really enter a new UAge of Aquariusn... nwith hope and understanding, sym athy and love abounding... May God bless you and grant you health, happiness, and success in all your future endeavors. Fondly 1, ' -Z. fQ.,z.,.f Isidore L. Karbel, Principal 5 043' .2 O m.J-,,.,1.J'-,,-.,,...,.',.Q,.h . He was no longer the funny guy. He was no longer the humorous person of the circus act. He stopped pretending. He faced reality. He left the circus tent And walked towards home, Wherever home might be: A park bench or an empty alley. He was sad. Bodies on the bench move to make room for more, their cold, blank apathetic faces buried in their New York Times. The paper, their only companion. Each is oblivious to the other. A strange silence exists, all that is heard are rumbling wheels. The thundering train plummets into the tunnel of darkness. ll .-l , U9 ooo O POEM by Ian Azrikan Loud and clear, Unthreatened and absolute, Where the drear walls offer no comfort. To live life in its entirety, to be content, To have found what life and love are all about. I want to know that I did what I could, and did it well. To find happiness, peace, love, serenity, and understanding. I want to know I really lived life to the jidlest. LIFE by Robbin Juris Walking along the countryside I can clear my mind. Clara Barton, our lady in white, Helping on the battlefields, seeing the light Giving the wounded her loving care, Something only a woman could share. Then comes courageous Joan of Arc, Burned at the stake in the gloom of dark. Showing her strength at that time, A remarkable woman her death was a crime. Our queen of France, Miss Marie Antoinette, This fine person we will never forget. 'Zet them eat cake, she cried with a blessing, To the men of this world let this be a lesson. Madame Curie, our inventor of cures, Healing the sick and helping the poor. In the laboratory she surpasses a man, Doing the job the way only a woman can. Helen Keller, deaf, mute, and blind, More wonderous a woman you cannot find. Couldn't speak the words she tried to say, For her efforts she's remembered to this day. Eleanor Roosevelt, the wife of our Frank, She's the one he' s got to thank. With her help in his career, He learned to live in hope, not in fear. Susan B. Anthony for women's rights, She never gave up through all of her fights. Vote for women was her success, In Women's Lib she'll always be best. These wonderful women prove all women can stand, They soon will be equal throughout all the land. 1- lg, lljflll 17 .id ii EPI TAPH FOR J ULIET by Suzanne Stark Here lies Juliet, A lady fair, She took her own life Out of love 's despair. The Mets were playing bad ball all the way, But, maybe they were just blujcing. Cause in the bottom of the ninth, The crowd cried out their moans. Inspired, Harrelson whipped a shot, And scored from second, Jones. ' And on the very next pitch, Good ol' Bud Harrelson reckoned, A. And beat Johnny Bench 's fantastic throw, Standing there safe on second. X Grote walked and was picked ofyi And up to the plate stepped Seaver. On three pitches he struck out, And the stadium exploded with fever. Up to the plate stepped Milner, Choking up on his wood, And he singled in the run, Just like any great player would. My father had been reluctant, To take me to this thrilling game. Once you've seen one, he said, They all just seem the same. Oh, somewhere in this sad, sad world, Where people cry and weep.
