0? 8715? af.. 1946 Despite a lack of equipment and experience, C. H. S. fielded a football team in 1946 and en- gaged in three grid-iron fracases. The Trojans won one, tied one, and lost one. A total of the scoring in these three games reveals that Cumoy's lads outscored opponents 25-14. ' The boys in Maroon and White journeyed to Winnsboro for their first game of the season with the B-Team there. Winnsboro marched to a TD and a conversion the first time they attempted an of- fense. The game then turned in to a defensive show with both forward walls locking horns in blood-thirsty fashion. Late in the final quarter James Smith went off right tackle for a thirty yard gain to the Winnsboro one yard line. Raymon Bramlett then galloped through a big hole in the center for a touchdown. The conversion failed and the score ended 7-6 Winnsboro. Cumby's ancient enemy Saltillo was next on the list and in a tussle at Saltillo, the two strong teams battled to a scoreless tie. To finish the grid slate for the year the Trojans again engaged the Saltillo eleven, this time at home. On this occasion the Trojans wrote a different ending to the story and smashed their opponents l9-7 in a game which featured agressive line play and two touchdowns by the speed Bramlett Captain Bill Vaughn tallied the other TD on a forty yard gallop after intercepting a pass. The Trojans were well satisfied with their record and were grateful to Coach Dick Riley and Herbert Joyce Green who coached them creditably. The gridsters who graduate in '46 yearn to see the day when Cumby again engages wholeheartedly in football and tackles a full schedule.
