HWUKM Q11 if 6 The year of 1946 turned out to be a very successful one for C.H.S.'s basketball team. The Trojans tied for the district championship but were stopped short of the regional tourney by the Sulphur Bluff Bears with whom they played their tie for honors off. The lads in Maroon and lhite tangled with eleven quints on their home count and each time they sent their visitors home de- feated. In all the Trojans notched 17 victories against 8 defeats. They totaled 656 points for an average of 27 points per game against 555 points tallied by opponents for a game average of 23. The Trojans, guided by the steady hand of Coach Dick Riley, started the season with a first string composed of Clifford Evans and Billy Vaughn at forwards, Raymon Bramlett at center and James Smith and Charles Lewis at guard posts. Just when the going was getting tough and a championship was in sight, mumps and tonsilitis snatched Vaughn, Captain Bramlett, and Smith from the roster. Robbie Plunkett, Junior Evans, and Bobbie lontague came to the rescue however and Coach Riley's club managed to win the remainder of its conference games and enter the play off with Sulphur Bluff. Of the eight men who lettered on the A squad, only Robbie Plunkett will be back next year. Several promising boys were de- veloped on the B team and will assist him in again giving Cumby a hardwood quintet she can be proud of. Co-Captain Clifford Evans lead the Trojans in scoring with an impressive 203 points, The Cumby High School record for 1946 is as follows: Cumby 23 . . . . . . . . . . .
