JQWJQZT ' .,-, .... , s,'.X',, -- ORGANEAUONS se- lling, pi 6yHui 4 a PARENT TEACHER'S ASSOCIATION Aware of the need of an organization to further the interest of childhood and youth and mindful of the need of adult education and growth in things spiritual, a group of interested parents and teach- ers met at the Cumby school auditorium October 8, 1940 to reorganize a Parent Teacher Association, the organization having been inactive for several years. The local unit affiliated with the Texas Con- gress at the first meeting and continue to follow the suggested State outline of service. Five of the members have certificates after completing the Texas Procedure Course for Parents and Teachers. The unit is active in the Hopkins County Council. Past Presidents of the group are Mrs. J. B. Lewis, Mrs. W. H. Brown, Mrs. Malcoln Cox and Mrs. H. R. Shields. Mrs. Brown is now serving her second term as President. Other officers this year are Mrs. H. L. Barker, First Vice-President, Mrs. Dale Smith, Second Vice-President, Mrs. W. S. Manning, Third Vice-President, Mrs. Bob Moseley Jr., Secre- tary, Mrs. W. C. Rape, Treasurer, Mrs. Frank Weaver, Publicity Chairman, Mrs. H. R. Shields, Parliamen- tarian. Although not essentially a money making organ- ization, the P.T.A. has sponsored many projects with the proceeds used to assist the school in a physical way. Noteworthy accomplishments during recent years are: Donations to library each year, donations to lunch room, playground equipment, campus beautifi- cation, redecoration of stage, assisted F.F.A. in installation of shower in gymnasium. It is the aim of the unit to buy a piano and a new front curtain for the stage in the near future. The following is the P.T.A. Wartime Pledge, toward which the Cumby unit is striving:

WTO preserve in discovering new avenues of ser- vice and help to youth. 'To strive forever forward, counting no effort wasted that brings us a little nearer to the ideal of a world founded on the principle of human bro- therhood. WTo protect our children against all the dangers of war, whether those dangers be physical, mental or spiritual. NTo keep the faith delivered unto us by our forefathers, who hewed this America out of the wild- erness and dedicated it to liberty, justice, happi- ness and truth for every human being.W W4
