Imogene Tbles thinks fate has dealt her some mean tricks for she is still not married at the age of twenty-six. ' Billy Gene Chapin took his father's place and is now serv- ing as a trustee on the Cumby School Board. Billy has at last reached his goal, after years of toil, the poor soul. Brazil Follis, now in the Army Air Corps, has just received his promotion for bravery and vallor. He stood pat, but he missed every plane that he ever shot at. Van Smith is running the domino hall in Cumby, Van has had a hard struggle, looks as tho' he can't win, pays out more money than he can take in, Katie Jail is now supporting her husband, james O Beasley, by running the dietition room in the Cumby General Hospital. Their marriage threatens to come to a bitter end, for she can't make as much money as he would like to spend, Lorothy Nell Hayes is running a bakery for which R. L. Green drives a bread truck. Frequently her bread has been known to mold, for she never sold a loaf under two months old. La Terne Barnes is now operating a sandwich shop on the out- skirts of Cumby. her headwaitress happens to be Mrs Gerald carpenter, the former jo Ann Jowden. The bill of fair was very poor and far from being nice, no customer she ever served was known to eat there twice. Now jo Ann Bowden was quick on foot working with quite a dash, serving the food in modern style mak- ing many a mash, I Fruett Hosely finally gave up all hope of getting Mary Louise Cox to marry him and he is now in Hollywood making motion pictures. His critics say instead of trying to become a movie actor, he should be at home driving his father's tractor. Sary Louise Cox as the years go by, her face marred by many a wrinkle, cries for having missed her only chance to hear her wedding bells tinkle. Morris nay green is now with the great side show, nwonder- ful Wonderlandau His years are now exactly twenty and seven, if he hadn't been stunted in his growth, he might have reached seven feet eleveno .4- Tl-IE SENIORS TEN YEARS mom fvow Otis Evans is a great professor in the Cumby High School. As a teacher he's proven a great success, otherwise he's a fail- ure more or less. Raymond'Strickland is running the nCrispyn Potato Chip factory in Greenville. In stopping at Greenville he made a great mistake, he's too near home to pull such a fake. Helen Marlar is now doing an act in the circus. The act she is performing is well fitted to one of her size and age, shoving peanuts to the monkeys through the bars of the cage. Don Noble is working hard to support his family. He has joined the Marines. Sailing over the seven seas must keep him quite busy, for all the sailing he ever did here was driving a tin lizzie.- Connie Bill'Cross and Christine Penelton are still going together. Connie is just too timid to pop the question. But a lump in his throat always caused him to stop. Jimmie Nell Smith is a ballad dancer. She can set her feet to music both quick and slow, but shows of her best following a drum solo. Loyd Robinson is now head electrician in the light plant at Paris. To learn how he pulled this job we never cared to bother, but it must have been through the influence of his electrous father. Now Billy jack Gaines, a man of great renoun is sitting as judge of Cumby town. We also have another girl, who heard her country's call and is one of the world's best riveters and helped the Axis fall. Now the boys in Dallas may want to know her name. It is Myrtle kuth Crumpton, who stands in the hall of fame. You may also be interested in the girl, Jorthia Lee Romans, by name, she is married to j. C. Smithers who runs the subway train. .Katy jo Baxter, a basketball star, is touring the world both near and far. . Joris Smith, a student of honorable mention has carried out her one intention. She already has, you know, taken Kate Smith's place on the radio. In closing, we shall give our thanks to Mr. Bolton for taking our pranks, he has been kind, and patient, toog ready to serve and see things through. We are sincere and can truly say thank you, Mr. Bolton, in our humble way. ,Z U RESLDEN VICE-PRESIDENT SECRETARY TREASURER 11 N S. oucronuw V ALE O UR CLA35 MOT To OUR C L In September of 1939, forty-nine of us enrolled as Fresh- men as practically all classes do. Miss Morrow's English I caused a few of us to fall by the wayside, and some had gone down in Mrk Irvin's algebra, For Freshmen we werenft so bad either, We had an excellent base ball team and a fair Junior High basketball team, Along came December and we were enters tained by our sponsor, Mr, Hutchinson, with a Christmas party, Fall of '40 came, and forty enrolled as sophomores, Some had moved away, but these were counter balanced-by new students We elected officers again, including a treasurer who had lite ' tle to do, and a vice president who had even less, Our advancef ment hadn't helped our dignity much, About'3OZ still came to meetings in a storm, The Sophomores took the highest honors in the season's activities, by electing Mary Jo Baxter as Football Queen and Truett Moseley and Mary Louise Cox as king and queen of the Carnival, Mr, Heflin was selected as Sophomore sponsor and took the tedious task of keeping our business straight, There were thirty nine of us as Juniorsg Our ranks were thinned by geometry, some lingered over history another'nine months and some wandered off never to return, We gave our treasurer more to do then, We presented.WThe Meddlesome Maidn. and uncovered a lot of talent and some cash, The Junior Senior Banquet was a huge success, The color scheme was that of the rainbow, and candles furnished light, Then spring came and we were Seniors, August, '42, found us Seniors, and although our ranks have been thinned to about twenty nine, we have an excellent baskets ball temn, In the fall of 542 the Seniors were again in the spotlight when our class won by a great majority over the Sophw omores when our king, Don Noble, crowned the Senior queen, Velma Moseley, Our Senior play, Aunt Tillie Goes To Town, made more money than our Junior play, To sum it up, we've.been a pretty nClassieH class., Anyway, wetve had fun. We studied for eight years before we came to the turn that led us into High School There were seventeen Freshmen who worked hard to pass from the Freshman Class to the Sophomore Class. From our Freshman year to the next we gained a few students for we had twenty-one. In our Junior year we have counted twentyhseven students, who hail from Brashear, Maloy, Friendship, Palestine, Branom, and Cumby. The main events of the year, 1942-'43, amounted to a picnic at Ada Lee Hall's home. Later came a weiner roast at Billie Jo Petty's, than we all remember the watermelon cutting on the school campus. We also participated in the Halloween Carnival with Ada Lee Hall and R. T. Williamson as our prince and prin- cess. ICJ 4272 v 5 . 5 - The Cumby Grammar School has an enrollment of around oneN hundred and fifty pupils, Miss Ruth Green is grade school prin-, cipalg she teaches the seventh and eighth grades. Other elemen-' teachers are as follows: Mrs. Faye Odom, fifth and sixth, Mrs. Mable Guinn, third and fourth, and Mrs, Preston Hutchinson, first and second, - ' I ' The eighth grade is an organized class consisting of twenty three members. The president of the class is Billy Junellg Secs retary, Dorothy.Maire Moreland, and Reporter, Bobbie Plunkett, One of the outstanding events of the year was the eighth grade banquet. A ' u Top ranking scholarship in the eighth grade lies between Charles Eastman and Billy Junell, one of which will be'valedicte orian at the end of the term and the other will be salutatorian, Pupils of the grade school take a very active part in every school activity. They are always active in sports too, and will someday develop into stronger and greater Trojans, perhaps, than we have yet had. They are enthusiastic about various athletic teams, and some of them, even now, promise to do great things on the grid-iron, and the court in the near future, A Just as a building is no stronger than its foundation, so is a school no stronger than its foundation, the primary and the elementary grades. We are proud of the splendid work done in our elementary school, and we feel that our high school is contin ually made stronger and more'vigorous by the fine type of students in our high school, who come to us from surrounding rural schools. Significant of their work is the fact that many times our highest ranking students are from these schools, . u .
