Argus at Ci IA Argus was a monster of Greek mythology, Who had the sight of a hundred spies. Who was part of Queen Hera's cosmology, To check up on King Zeus' naughty eyes. One day Queen Hera noticed a peculiar low lying cloud, That stood out in a field of sunshine Thinking only of her dignity, she rushed to that gaseous declivity. To her wondering suspicious eyes she found King Zeus with only a heifer that was bound. But clever Hera was not so easily tricked, For she saw through that heifer disguise but quick, To find the soul not a heifer known to us But the soul of beautiful Io, daughter of Inachus Zeus was not his usual self, for wise Hera took the heifer for herself, So to guard the disguised beautiful maid, Hera assigned Argus whose hundred eyes could not be betrayed. Mighty Zeus thwarted by Io's plight, Sent cunning Mercury in swift flight. Now Mercury knew his many talents And his skills were known among gallants. But he would not set his sights To match Argus in strength or sleepless nights. So he lulled to sleep each of the hundred And as he struck off the head, it thundered. Beautiful Io was set free of course Was sent off by Zeus on a far away course. Poor, poor, poor, Argus seemed to have met his end, But clever Hera thought too much of the monster friend She scattered his eyes in the peacock's tail Where they can be found by anyone without fail. Time, time, how rapid and so fast, Argus is now just a figment of the bygone past. And so I come to the part I like best, Where we tell you about C. V. and Argus' new test Argus has been transformed by time But in this era he is no longer connected with crime He is now a guide and protector at C. V. for '58 Where he was chosen by the seniors to prosper their fate There's a hundred seniors in the class of '58 That means Argus will have an eye on you, old mate. But I guess that's why we chose him to lead us and all that For we knew that we would never, never be back. -by WILLIAM A. CLEMENTSON -. A. -+ as-as 3
