Seavers, Supervising Principal We, the class of 1955, know that to dedicate the first ARGUS to one deserving a much higher honor is indeed a small gesture. We would like to be able to give him all that he has given us, but this yearbook, which will become invaluable to us, we believe is the best concrete expression of our gratitude to Mr. Seavers. Becaum of, . . . his incomparable faith in us, . . . his sincere interest in us, . . . his dynamic inspiration to us, . . . and his dream's success for us, we dedicate to him this yearbook, a fragmentary symbol of our appreciation. 6 W IM I I Q , ,V 4 f my -0 I XX R Ji., N Q ' Q Nw x V 1 Q if aff ...f . :X E 6 , 5 lf' 1 2-5 1 , ,' ,f X 4 N MR. SEAVERS, Supervising Principal To Our Seniors . . . The name CUMBERLAND VALLEY is well established in the geography and history of our great country. Three years ago four school districts organized themselves to become the CUMBERLAND VALLEY JOINT SCHOOL SYS- TEM. This associated the name CUMBERLAND VALLEY with a public school system for the first time. One of the first goals of the new school system was the planning, building, and estab- lishment of the CUMBERLAND VALLEY HIGH SCHOOL. This was realized in iust two years. It is therefore now my opportunity to con- gratulate you, our first senior class. You have shared an experience unique in public educa- tion, namely, participation in the organization of a new secondary school program in a beau- tiful and modern new high school plant under the leadership and instruction of a new staff of teachers. I covet for each of you aspirations and happiness for the future, a realization that your high school days are now ended but that your education is only begun, and a genuine loyalty to the CUMBERLAND VALLEY HIGH SCHOOL. You are its charter alumni. I rejoice that you are well equipped to go forth to learn and live. Gilmore B. Seavers Supervising Principal MR WHITNEY, Principal V W- Congratulations to the Class of 1955, the first class to graduate from the Cumberland Valley High School. Needless to say you have been a class of many firsts too numerous to list in so small a space. You were gathered together from nine different high schools. lt would not have been unusual if cliques had developed but this was not the case as was so clearly dem- onstrated when you elected a class president who was the lone representative from his par- ticular high school. You assumed your rightful position of lead- ership in a very dignified and gracious manner. You have set a good example for the classes that follow you. May you continue to set that example in the years to come so that the Cum- berland Valley High School will always be proud ot you. Best wishes to each and every one of you now and throughout life. O Senior Play Pop's Malt Shoppe was the setting of Uncertain Wings, a three-act comedy. The heroine, Mar- garet Foster, was a budding career girl concen- trating on writing a play to be entered in the state drama tournament. She was encouraged by Tubby, a rather plump girl who was a wheel in school activities. But Lola, the school's glamour girl, also entered a manuscript in the competition. Quite to the humiliation of some of her friends about whom it was written, Margaret's play was chosen. At the same time the basketball team was choos- ing a girl to be their sponsor. Election to this was considered quite an honor. Margaret was chosen but decided instead to go to the drama tourna- ment. Her boyfriend, Jack, was disappointed and perplexed by her decision. Many of her friends also believed her to be foolish. However Margaret went on to win the tournament. When she returned home her friends threw a Welcome Home party for her. The episode with Jack was straightened out. And the play ended on a happy note. Members of the school crowd who hung around Pop's Malt Shoppe were supporting actors in the cast. Cumberland Valley's tirst senior play was staged on April l4 and l5. ra K. , .
