This council is an organization of students that seek to pre- serve the integrity of the Honor Code at Cumberland Col- lege. It aims to secure justice for any student under suspicion of dishonesty, to vindicate his or her name if innocent, and if guilty, to protect the honor and standing of the remaining students by his or her punishment. The Honor Council con- cerns itself solely with those offenses which are classified as dishonorable. This applies to all tests, themes, term papers, and examinations. This year ' s team has excited the crowds attending the games with the brand of basketball they expect to see from Cumberland; fast, high scoring, and thrilling. Coach Ellis and Coach Swain should really be proud of the way they have molded a group of freshmen and combined them with the experience of the sophomores into a team; a winning team. Last year Cum- berland recorded their first 20-game win season ever when they finished 20-1 3, and were third in the conference. This year ' s outlook is even brighter with the loss of only two sophomores from the starting lineup of last year! The schedule this year is a special one; spiced with a trip for the team to an Invitational tourney in Fernandina Beach, Florida. The teams that will be participating are Gulf Coast Community College, Jackonsville University, and St. Johns. This honor has given the players an extra incentive to do well because they hope to win the division title this year. GOOD LUCK! Under the new leadership of Kathy McGovern the girls have worked hard to get in SHAPE for this year ' s performances. They have done routines to In the Mood, The Stripper, and the Charleston ; all of which were very good. For the dedication and work these girls have put into their rou- tines, all Cumberland has GAINED. Diane Adams, on alternate for the Drill Team, has performed several routines with the girls. 1 ) ' Mnem, 109 c% ' m The main goal for the Cheerleaders has been to support and follow the Basketball team wherever they may go. The Cheer- leaders had several bakesales in which to raise money to go to the Florida Tournament with the Bulldogs during Christmas vaca- tion. They also held a Sadie Hawkin ' s Dance to raise additional money and they have been selling candy all year for the some purpose. The Cheerleaders have worked very hard to keep up the spirit of Bulldog fans and players this year. The support the fans have given the Basketball team has been tremendous proving the Cheerleaders have done their duty successfully. TENNESSEE TENNESSEE Dear Friends; A yearbook cannot be published without the financial support of the commu- nity. For this help I would like to thank all the various merchants of Lebanon and surrounding communities who contributed to the 1 975 PHOENIX. My thanks to all those who worked on the actual putting together of this book. Without their help there would be no yearbook. The theme of this book We Are Cumberland was chosen to represent the fac- ulty and students as a group. Cumberland is not merely the buildings and grounds, but these things combined with the people who live, work, and learn here. Without people what would o college be? For this reason, I chose the theme We Are Cum- berland.
