When Bob Jarboe has been ill or away, he has carried on the good work. I am sure it is hard to be a Vice-President who is always busy and always active in everything. Bob, as well as being Vice- President, is the captain of the tennis team this year. We want to thank him for doing such a fine Job in both of his endeavors. She must be a fast writer to take down everything that is said in all the meetings that have taken place this year. Pat is a hard working girl and she had to do many other things besides writing and attending meetings. Behind the no-hit, shutout pitching of Wayne Yancey and Steve Garner, Coach Van Washer ' s team rallied all year. Having a strong bench as well as a good starting nine, the Bulldogs were strong at every position. Perhaps their greatest asset was in their willingness to never lose faith in their ability, even in defeat. However, the Bulldogs were also a highly versatile team. Every pitcher was able to play at least one other position, and often switching of positions occurred. Coach Washer recalls utility man Bob Jarboe playing five positions in a span of four innings. Not only a fine pitcher, Steve Garner also led the Bulldogs in hitting with a 387 average. Catcher Emmett Tinsley followed close behind with a 382 average. Many times we gripe, but I believe, all in all, we are all glad we chose Cumberland as our school. 174 EDITOR ' S PAGE hope this, the 1969 Phoenix, will mean as muc h to you as it does to me and all the people who helped in creating this edition of the Phoenix. We tried to put a little of everything that happened this year into this book, to make it a solid memory of your year here at Cumberland. We, the Phoenix staff, hope you will treasure this yearbook as you would a friend. I want to sincerely thank everyone who has helped make this yearbook possible. There are many and it would take several pages to list them all by name, but to a few I would like to give special thanks. To Dr. Stockton.
