DEDICATION MISS SARA HARBISON Over the past century, Cumberland University ' s School of Law has had the honor of having on its faculty many brilliant individuals, outstanding in their fields of endeavor. One such individual is Miss Sara Hardison, professor of law, librarian. Miss Hardison was graduated from Cumberland in 1923 with an LLB, and assumed the position of librarian. During the past 34 years she has taught over 5,000 students the fundamentals of How to find the Law. It has been said that If Miss Sara cannot find the law on any subject, it probably doesn ' t exist. On behalf of the many alumni and students, we would like to express our warmest thanks for a job very well done. CUMBERLAND UNIVERSITY

Shannon Lebanon THE CHAIRMAN SPEAKS The most rewarding experience I have enjoyed in my lifetime has been my association with Cumberland University, an institution which has produced some of the outstanding leaders of our nation. I am no educator, and I accepted this respon- sibility with reluctance as I felt that there are others more deserving and better equipped to fill a place on this board. As a business man, how- ever, I know the value to my field of endeavor of well-trained minds and the development of char- acter. I came in as a pinch-hitter because Cum- berland University has hung on tenaciously to the educational creed which has fostered the spirit of free enterprise. It has a character in itself well worth preserving. It follows that good schools produce people equipped with a good supply of factual informa- tion, ability to live and work with people of all types, potential capacity to ap- ply these two factors, sound reasoning ability, and a solid sense of values. All of these prerequisites Cumberland ful- fills, plus training in character- building. It instills into the minds of its students an ap- preciation for the requirement of moral law as well as for statute laws, and implants in them the fact that one goes to school for the purpose of fit- ting himself for living up to the responsibilities of life. Cumberland University has been time-tried and tested, and can be judged by the products it has turned out. Cumberland alumni may well be proud of their Alma Mater, and the en- tire community should give this great institution its staunch support. Edward Potter, Jr.

RESIDENT DR. CHARLES B. HAVENS To the students, faculty, alumni and friends of Cumberland : This present session — the 114th — has witnessed a most significant phenomenon: the complete liquidation of all indebtedness against our school. As a result of service rendered to him by Cumberland, Mr. R. L. Carlock, Sr., of Fort Worth, Texas, be- queathed over $70,000.00 to us and made it possible for the school to operate once more free from all financial encumbrances. Today our School of Law offers the finest instructional program in its history and our new College has already won acceptance in Middle Tennessee as one of Tennessee ' s most alert and fastest growing junior colleges. Once more Cumberland not only retains a glorious past, but also lives again in the present, and optimistically awaits its future. Whether you are among those who stay or among those who are leaving, we solicit from you your understanding, hope, and loyalty, and wish for you the very finest pro- fessional and personal life. Sincerely, Charles B. Havens President
