In order that this year may not be forgotten in the turmoil and hurry of modern living, it has been the aim of the 1941 Phoenix to present as accurately as possible a brief, but, we believe, a com- posite, picture of this passing parade, this year at Cumberland University.

The staff of the 1941 Phoenix respectfully dedicates this issue to the man, Sam Bone, to whom we realize that we and Cumberland owe a lasting debt of grati- tude — not that he is a popular man, his position forbids him to be. But we in all truth and sincerity can say that if it were not for this man, his hardheadedness, his sound common sense, and his ability to say no, we would be deprived of many of the benefits both material and intangible which we now enjoy. In these trou- bled times had Sam Bone not been in the position of authority and control that he occupies, another and sadder story might be that of Cumberland today. And so in fairness and in honesty we take this opportunity to in some small way express our appreciation to a man who has had little evidence paid him of the job which he has done so well and continues to do. I
