THE CUMBERLANDER Published by the Students of CUMBERLAND TOWNSHIP HIGH SCHOOL Carmichaels, Pennsylvania VOL. 33 EDITORS Charlotte Crick and Sally Hartley The Cumberlandcr Staff presents the 1962 volume with a two-fold purpose. It is meant to remind you again and again of the numerous experiences you have had here and at the same time to instill in your minds the challenges made during your high school years. The Staff sincerely hopes that the 1962 Cumber- lander will provide you with many pleasant memories in the years to come. y [ }r v x] 2 Challenges You They Gave Us MR. J. WILLIAM KERR Supervising Principal Since Challenge is the theme of this year’s Cumber- lander, here is my challenge to the students of our high school: Today so many critical and demanding fingers are being pointed at this very important institution which we call Education. Partly because of that and partly because it is just the natural thing for good people to do, many people are sacrificing and labor- ing to make Education work. I’m referring to your parents, taxpayers, teachers, school directors, and many other friends and supporters of Education. Therefore, I challenge you to do your very best, and a little more, to help Education fulfill its noble objectives. Realize your importance in life and get out of school all you can to prepare you for life. Cause those of us who are working so hard for you to feel that it is not all in vain. Education is the apprenticeship of life. 4 A Challenge MR. WALTER A. ATALSKI Assistant Supervising Principal A Challenge to the Class of 1962 I challenge you to use all your tal- ents—so that you can live a full, rich, fruitful life. You have more potential than you realize. Don’t follow the crowd. Lift your head above the crowd. Have the courage to be different. Always do your best so that you can be proud of any endeavour. I challenge you to achieve—so that the future can look back on your accom- plishments. Set your goal high. Be proud to work. Don’t try to see how much you can get out of doing. H. G. Wells once said: “Wealth, no- toriety, place, and power are no meas- ure of success whatever. The only true measure of success is the ratio between what we might have done and what we might have been on the one hand, and the thing we have made and the thing we have made of ourselves on the other.” I challenge you to aim at something worthy of the best that is in you. 5 Did You Prepare for a Place in a Scientific World?
