CLASSES - lgw S fl :tV'g5:1, ' 21 af, 1159556 'f 5Lwtt,,.Vi Q , . ,, 6 A. , wa-, fl' ,Le I OLaughlin Tfearurer J Lapsevich Vue President M Black President C Billick Secrefary SENIOR CLASS HISTORY ALWAYS FORWARD NEVER BACKWARD Wrth the approach of commencement we the Class of 1950 prepare to leave forever the familiar halls of C T H S It is a time we anxiously and perhaps rmpati ently awaited But now that there is so little of our sen ior year left we experience not only the customary ex citement and joy but also a slight undercurrent of sad ness We entered C T H S in 1946 as perhaps the green est freshies that ever invaded the school And of course the upperclassmen took full advantage of this fact and a day was set aside for the sole purpose of initiating the al before we became accustomed to the routine of things and settled down to become one of the best freshmen class Cso we thoughtb Cumberland ever had We par ticipated in the election of class officers and chose as our president Anna Kartley vice president Samuel Warrick secretary Jeanne McLaughlin and treasurer George Zubal As sophomores our presence was being felt in such organizations as band chorus and the various clubs In sports Fred Novak and Steve Korcheck made the varsity basketball team To lead our class that year we chose Angelo Valli as president jo Ann McCann as vice ptest dent Isabelle OLaughl1n as secretary and Dolores Sre dinsky as treasurer ln our lunior year we portance in Cumberland seniors the trtle of upperclassmen We sponsored one of the biggest social events of the year the Cinderella Ball With the gym gayly decorated in our class colors blue and white and with the music being, provided by really began to feel our im for now we shared with the the wonderful orchestra of Richie Lewis what else could it be but a terrific success' We also held a very success ful skating, party at Fern Cliff The capable officers that year were Steve Korcheck president Maurice Black vice president Isabelle OLaughl1n secretary and Anna Kart ley treasurer Our last year without a doubt the best year of all began with the all important event of electing class of ficers Electron results were President Maurice Black Vice President joe Lapsevrch Treasurer Isabelle O Laughlin Secretary Cecilia Billick We then launched Name cards were ordered production of the Cumbet lander was begun and a senior committee was chosen The football team won the title of Greene County Champions and we were proud when George Zubal Ed ward Shifko and Fred Novak of the Class of 1950 made the Greene County first team Proud too were we of Ernest Krutko Wilfred Kotouch Maurice Black John Medunrc and Tony Cerqueira the other senior members of the team We were vsell represented in basketball baseball and track An important social event scheduled on the C T H S calendar was a Valentine Dance sponsored by our senior class in February Highlighting the affair was the crowning of the King and Queen of Hearts Finally senior prom time arrived a forerunner to Bac calaureate Commencement and goodbye to C T H S our classmates and teachers lt has been a grand memo ry packed four years for each one of us To those who come after us we wish success joy and happy years t Cumberland is P' 1 ' y l 1 1' - . x A A 1. - s I 1' - . . x - 1 , , . .1 - . . l U A' . , ' . . A 1 . , . , . . 41 ,jj 'AWA L :Ta Ui, an 15- Nl .lv 1 Urda Trearurer T Kaprive Vzce Prendent T Buday Premient J Tuckish Secretary FRESHMAN CLASS HISTORY IN UNITY THERE IS STRENGTH At last September 6 1949 arrived and with it the Freshres at CTHS As we entered the building for the first time we felt excited curious and just a little frightened-excited as to what new class new teachers and friends would be frightened as to whether we would be able to make the grade The many corridors and rooms of the strange building overwhelmed us Soon however we be gan to feel at home As we sat cheering at the first football game we suddenly realized that this was our school and we belonged here especially since Thomas Buday a member of our class was con sidered good enough to be a football letterman With the election of Noel Ralston Kenneth Brown Lucille Valli and Harold Hartley to rep resent us on the Student Council we felt proud that we were beginning to have a real part in the school activities We did not feel so proud the day we were asked to parade in the public square with the girls wearing mens workshoes and socks mens trousers wrong side out and backwards a sloppy jersey a necktie fifteen pigtails with a rib bon in each one a man s lunchbucket and no make up or jewelry The boys were attrred in unmatched upside down bare midrrff ladies hats a burlap sack and all the makeup and jewelry they could get on But that night our injured pride was sooth ed when we won a 14 0 victory over the jeffs Soon after freshman customs the electron of class officers was held The successful candidates were President Thomas Buday Vice President Thom as Kaprive Secretary Jack Tuckish Treasurer Jerome Urda We felt the officers elected would perform their dunes to the best of their abilities We now feel that we have a good start and as We look at the Senior Class we only hope that after three more years of work we will have ac complished as much as honorably as they CONGRATULATIONS CLASS OF 1950 ri A l 'V A wiv -' 7 I 'X ' Y 1' ' ' ! . 7.
