T H E C M K A DE K OF '19-44 PUBLQSE- 1ED we saraxm CLASS OF , CUMBE3kLfXND T W P 5-NCLH S CHQCJL CA M E C H A E L S, PA vm 15 FCJKVVX-X K D Because we feel that our high school days are im- portantg because we believe that what we received here educationally and socially is worth remembering, we have composed this book. It will serve as a record book of memories at times in our future lives when we wish to reminisce over friends, fun and forgotten fancies. And it will bring back in part, the happiness and tears of four wonderful years spent here. DEINCATIQN To our classmates who are serving in the armed forces on all the battlefronts of the worldg to the soldiers, sailors, marines and air men who protect the land, sea, and air: we dedicate this book as a token of our admiration. It is dedicated in recognition of their gallantry, bravery, and patriotism with which they are helping to win this struggle against the forces which are attempting to destroy' our method of living. f W Q K D FROM THE EDITCDK Upon the shoulders of the youth of nmerico will be ploced the very future of the country in which they live. Whether those shoulders will be broad enough to take up such o task is e question which only time can answer. But if the spirit ond determination with which they are fighting this wer is ony indication of what they will do with their Jobs after the wor, then you can place your trust in then without the slightest hes- itllt 10110 We who graduate from high school this spring are u part of that youth. Many of the boys of our class have left to serve with the armed services. Those who are still here will in all probability be going soon to re- ceive training. Those of us who are left will ploy e port, even though it be smell, in the shaping of the future. Whether we be greet or smell shell nuke no differ- ence in the end so long os what we do is done well und with belief in the rightness of our task. Our .school shell huve played on important role in shaping our cher- ecters und attitudes. Our families, too, ore e factor which must not be overlooked. Whatever it is that does the most for us does not reslly matter, it is rather the fast that working together, they produce the best Kind of people to be found anywhere on earth, the American people. Pest, present and future, they have been end will be outstanding. Not because they did rosh acts of des- truction, but becouse they huve been ideolists who hed the courage to push their idees eheed to reality. De- spite ell the preochings ond scoldings about juvenile delinquency, we who ore the youth of today and the American notion's governor's of tonorrow's world believe now end shell continue to believe that we have within us all the qualities which have destinguished nmericans in the pest. We are fighting more intensely today so that tomorrow we may be e living proof of it because tomorrow will belong to us. Q' Editsr ..., Seniar Editor . Junior Editor . ' A word to our Board of Education Behind every improvement and advancement in our school and its system lies the work of our Board df Education. We have them to thank for one of the most modern, up-to-date, schools in this area. Our newest addition was a paved driveway. Although it may be seldom that we show our appreci ation we would like them to know that we do realize what a grand job they are dbing. Because of the size, we were not very active. In order to remedy this we revised our constitution in January, to include those students who were very active in clubs and athletic organizations. Membership was formerly limited to Juniors who had 3 Ns in three senestors and to Seniors with ln l's in five semesters. Liter the revision we were able to include Juniors who have 4 Scholastic n's and A Activity nfs, and Seniors who have 7 Scholastic n's and 7 Activity A's. An sftivlty A is given to menbers in any accredit- ed club or orvenisation in school. To be president of an organizntion is considered 3 n's and any other offi- ccr 2 A's. Cn this cdsis we took in five new Senior members and twelve Juniors. This swells our total mem- bership to 22. Fran now on we hope to be much more ac- tive. The president of the society is Estelle Krause and the Secretary-Treasurer is Robert Titus. We are sponsored by J. William Kerr. DRnMnTlC CLUB The Dramatic Club, composed of about thirty mem- bers, was newly organized last year. Miss Frances Goodwin organized and sponsored the club. Our officers this year were James Cole, Presidcntg Clara Barclay, Vice Presidentg Esther Lee, Secretaryg and John Hathaway, Treasurer. ns is the case in most of our activities, the Dramatic Club suffers from u slight man shortage, but the senior boys came to our rescue and co-operated sploudidly. The Club presented plays at Thanksgiving, Armistice Dey, and Christmas. They also presented two short comedies in April. Among the ac- tors and actresses we noted some real talent. The pur- pose of the club is to promote an appreciation of dra- matics and to help the club members develop their act- ing ability. I NEMACOLIN SODA GRILLE BnILY'S GnRAGE NEMnCOLIN', Ps. After losing so many of the bers through graduation, the band is, of ler this year. But the boys and girls of our school original mem- eourse, smal- now composing this organization arc working hard to keep it up to the high standards that have been set for it. Under the leadership of Mrs. Evelyn Funk, they have playmifur athletic meets of various kinds and paraded for patriot- ic programs as well. We hope that in spite of all the shortages of both material and men the band will keep on, because the sight and sound of one's own school band is something of which every student is proud. In addition to promoting our school pride and adding color and gaiety to our school function, the band is offering invaluable experience to those participating. tm E. nvsnv, PHOTOGRAPHER Lmemnvs cannon uasonrown, PA. CARMICHAELS, Pa. YYYQ IEHSDH00 FUTURE CRAFTSMEN OF AMERICA The F. C. A. has been a very active organization this year. Although Allan Ewart, the president, has gone into the air Corps, Bill Stockdale as vice presi- dent has ably taken over. The secretary of the club is Arthur Biddleg and the treasurer, Russel Stephenson. The sponsors of the Future Craftsmen of america are the shop teachers, Mr. Vail and Mr. Gavlak. A letter is given to all graduates of C. T. H. S. who belong to the club. Letters are to be given this year to Allan Ewart and James Cole. The present membership of the F. C. A. is fifteen. The organization has sponsored two sweater hops this year and they now are planning a banquet near the end of the school year at Cuppies. The F. C. A. has also been helpful in the war effort by making spot- ter model airplanes and for the Junior Red Cross they made ashtrays, tables, and lamps. WCW CLUB The girls' WCW Club, sponsored by Miss Harriette- Bally, is the only organized athletic group for girls in the school. Membership is obtained upon makingJ,OO0 points. Points are awarded for gym work and activities. The club sponsored two sweaterhops this year andhought pins for new members. They also sponsored the Girls' Intramural basketball tournanent for which WC'sN were awarded the champions. Viola Cioamak is president of the organization, Estelle Krause is vice president, and Gloria Zadel is secretary-treasurer. THE MIKE STAFF In spite of shortages and other such obstacles, the Mike staff undertook to continue publishingtheir nyfiken 0 The staff has not been as active as they would have likedg but they did their best, and they hope that everyone was satisfied. One of the main reasons the NMiken was published again this year was to keep our alumni in the service posted on school activities. Each of 65 boys receives a Mike each time it is published. In their many letters to Mr. Ridenour, the editor, and the staff, they leave no doubt of their appreciation. If the NMike' has giv- en them any pleasure, we feel more than repaid for hav- ing published it. HEADLEE AND SPRAGG W.-.YI-IESBU1iG , Pa . SICH'S BEnUTY SHOPPE SERTICH'S STORE ChRMICHAELS, Pa.
