MOST LIKELY TO SUCCEED Virginia Ayres and Lennie Gamage BEST PERSONALITY Emmett Speas and Harriet Swoap enwor Superlatives MOST CAREFREE Dot Carter and Alfred Spillman BEST SENSE OF HUMOR Frances Hedrick and Thornton Crowder MOST ATHLETIC Betty Lou Dunn and Bobby Price The transformation that has been taking place is now complete. We have undergone the wonderful change from wide-eyed freshmen to dignified seniors. We are now excitedly seeing the fulfill- ment of a goal set five years ago. As we look back over the years, we find many events that have made our journey through high school memorable. In the eighth grade, for example, there was the initiation so gleefully dealt out by the freshmen. There was much sport at our expense; but if the truth were known, we enjoyed it as much as any- one. Then there were the social and sport events, among which the Junior-Senior Party, that we as juniors sponsored, holds a special place. And the ball- games! How proud we were as we watched members of our class partici- pating in and helping win many games. Bobby Price, Alfred Spillman, and Em- mett Speas have been outstanding in basketball, and Bobby and Emmett in baseball. Some of our girls, too, have taken part in basketball. They are Eliz- abeth Dunivan, Frances Hedrick, Mary Companion, Dot Carter, and Betty Lou Dunn. All but Mary played this year and were on the first team. Other than recreational events there have been such activities as Dramatics, CACC eta A. i4—tl and lalligAs, from which we obtained much pleasure as well as satisfaction. One example of the work done in these clubs is that ac- complished in F, F. A. by Lennie Gam- age. He was president of the local chap- ter one year and president of the Pied- mont Federation another. He has also won many honors during the years he has beenin F.F.A. Last year in public speaking he won first place in the Fed- eration and fourth in the district; this year, first place in the Federation and second in the district. He has served on the crop judging team one year, 13 been a member of the degree team one year, and was selected as All-State Degree Team oecretary in “Sl. He was selected as Star Chapter Farmer, and to top the list, he is a candidate for the state Parmer Wepree this-year, We wish it were possible for all those who started out with us to be here now. Of the original thirty-three mem- bers of our class, there now remain only thirteen. They are Thornton Crow- der, Lennie Gamage, Teddy Keith, Bobby Price, Emmett Speas, Alfred Spillman, Virginia Ayres, Mary Com- panion, Elizabeth Dunivan, Frances Hedrick, Harriet Swoap, Shirley Wha- ley, and Ruby Wright. Added to this number are four other seniors who joined the class during the past two years: Dot Carter, Betty Lou Dunn, Thomas McDonald, and Wanda White. The members who dropped either during or at the end of our first year were: Haroldi Berry. bickie bowe, Donald Holland, Roy Roe, Claude Stin- nett, William Swoap, Vera Shelton, Reba Morgan, Della Stinnett, and Lor- etta Thomas. During the next three years we lost the following ten members: Joe Black, Floyd Black, Bertie Lang, Raymond Lewis, Rafie Wilson, Frank Sullivan, Lorene Baldwin, Ramona Garris, Eliz- abeth Harris, and Lettie Norman. As we are preparing to leave our high school days behind, we make this wish to the classes that remain. We hope that you will derive as much hap- piness and benefit from your days at C.H.S. as we have. To the teachers and to Mr. Smith, our principal and friend, we say, Thanks for the many little shoves that have kept us going in the right direction on our journey----so that we only made a few detours and have finally arrived at our destination, our graduation.
