rehb Lennie Gamage, Mrs. Baber, James Parker, Bobby Sanderson. (ABSENT), S. C. Glass. THE DEBATE CLUB The Debate Club was organized in 1947. Marie Ashburn, B. B. Stonnell, Frank Baber, Jeanette Furr, Herbert Goodman, Audrey Sanderson, Ann Smith and Jack Boggs were the members for that year. The teams were declared winners by default in Richmond at the spring district meet in March, and both the affirmative and negative teams won out at Federicksburg in April in the regional meet- ing. This victory resulted in their going to The University of Virginia to compete in the state meet. The affirmative team won through- out the first quarter of the contest and went into the semi-final quarter. Here they lost. In 1948 Herbert Goodman, Eric Robinson, Audrey Sanderson, Jeanette Furr, Shirley Baldwin, Ann Smith, and Lois Ehrhart made the Club. Both teams came through victor- iously to the. semi-finals at The University of Virginia and the affirmative team lacked 28 one vote of making state championship. In 1949 Bobby Sanderson, Betty Frazier, Rozine Stout, and Anne Foster were added as new members, while Lois Ehrhart dropped out. Both teams lost out at the regional meet at Federicksburg. This defeat was a great disappointment, but it wasagreed by all mem- bers thata greatdeal of inner satisfaction had been gained through the informal type of de- bating that had been used. In 1950 the Club has only 4 members: Bobby Sanderson and James Parker, are re- presenting the affirmative side of the State Question, “Resolved, That the people of the United States should rejectthe Weifare State.” S. C. Glass and Lennie Gamage are upholding the negative side of the question. The Club is hopeful at the moment that 1950 will bring fulfillment of it's ambition------ State Cham - pions.
