SMALLEN B.S.,' Eighth Grade, Football Coach Mns. FLORINE SMITH B.S.,- Librarian KENNETH STIER B.S.g Biology MISS MARTHA STRATTON B.S.g Director of Music FACULTY THE PAST RECAPTURED4' O, is all forgot? all School days, friendship, childhood innocence? but my co-mates and brothers in ancient exile, are we not now spirits of another infinite sort. I smile and say, this is no material flatteryg we are still counsellors who feelingly persuade these youth what they lack in mind, we do not, however, lowly debase ourselves, cousins, do we, to look so poorly and to speak so commonly fair. He does us double wrong, dear humble colleagues, that wounds us with the flatteries of his tongue. Hath not old custom made these lives more sweet than those of ancient days long since gone. Thus, we are a brief study how may be best compared- this transformation where we live unto the world from whence our civilization was thus derived- we are each, therefore, ayvivid librairie: each If a scribe, the custodian of an ancient librairie, arrayed, attired, or decked with elaborate apparel from the annals of periods and many centuries. 'The pictures appearing on the following pages first appeared on the bulle- tin board in the Cumberland High School Library. This bulletin board featured the book, lVhat People lVore, by Douglas Gorsline. The faculty, with prevailing high spirits, has sincerely enjoyed this endeavorment. THE CH1EFTA1N wishes to thank Mrs. Florine Smith who first created the idea, Mr. Lewis Burton for the invaluable art work, and Mr. Charles Anderson, Jr. for the inexpensive photography. Page 11
